According to The Hand of Thrawn, if his clone came out, they didn't know if he would want to go back to the Empire, or if he would side with the New Republic.  Because as stated before, all Thrawn was interested in was restoring peace.

He should have killed Rukh when Pellaeon suggested it.

but that isnt Thrawn's style - he doesnt kill on a whim, or for personal satisfaction - he is just cold logic

i think it would be interesting if Zahn got to bring Thrawn back to life with the second clone that 'could' exist - with the clone knowing its a clone, and having self confidence issues, etc

But Thrawn knew there was something weird in Noghri's. He said it himself. Thrawn-clone who will save the galaxy from Darth Krayt, my suggestion. Kinda farfetched

have you read the posts i made earlier in the thread - shortly before the NR attacked the shipyards, one of the Golan defense platforms went missing.  During the battle with the Vong years later, the Golan was rediscovered, it had been moved out of the way and fitted with a cloaking device.  I therefore assume that Thrawn ordered the Golan moved and fitted with a cloaking device, it follows that he would have some sort of plan or strategy concerning it, which would have given him an edge later in the battle (had he not been killed by Rukh).

The people who had taken control of the golan had assembled a hyperdrive, but their ship was destroyed, so they dropped the cloaking shield to be noticed during the battle.  Jaina and her squad went there to investigate.  The hypersrive was missing the motivator only, and the people on the golan thought that they could assemble a motivator out of 7 x-wing motivators.

Well in the battle the main reason Pellaeon retreated was the ships gettin in the shipyard, maybe Thrawn would have uncloaked that Golan right in front of the ships that got in

I think the main reason they retreated was because their last hope had turned into a corpse, not sure about this one.

They were equal forces but rebel forces were better motivated and lead after Thrawn's death.
