yes he could (and most probably would) - his grasp on tactics and strategies and how his opponents thought/planned etc are almost uncomparable - although he would have ended up taking losses

Thrawn knew that something was wrong with the Nogri, so if he wasn't focused on killing the Rebels, then in my opinion yes he would have trounced the Rebels.

and wasnt there something about a Golan defense platform that disappeared shortly before the battle (and was since discovered to have ben cloaked) - that would have given him an edge in the battle if he had had the oportunity to make use of it

I thought that the station was stolen later on, and used to fight the Vong after capturing Jaina and ner squadren.  I will have to read those books again to be sure though.

it was found and salvaged during the vong war - and Jaina and her squadron were captured by the salvagers for the hyperdrives in their starfighters - but its mentioned that the station disappeared (cloaked) shortly before the NR attacked Thrawn there - i wonder what his plans were for it

maybe for a surprise attack if Thrawn was forced to retreat from the battle, but since he died we will never know for sure.  And for the record the only thing the salvagers wanted from the starfighters was a hyperdrive motavator cobbled out of all the x-wings motavators.

You have to remember that Rukh, like all noghri, was very fast in his moves.

He did have stormtroopers near him, Rukh didn't even make it off the Chimaera.

The stormtrooper that was a clone that had Thrawn's tactical sence knew an attack was coming by someone, but hedidn't know by who.  His stormtrooper team were the ones who killed Rukh.

Weird thing in Thrawn campaign is that he loses all the major battles like Sluis Van, Bilbringi.....

maybe he does have a fault then - after he has his plan, based on the psychological stuff - he underestimates his enemies ?

I just think it is because "good" has to win "bad". Otherwise Thrawn would have survived and destroyed Rebels.

but is/was Thrawn 'bad' ? - he wasnt 'bad' in the same way that Palpatine and Vader were 'bad'

no wasn't but he wasn't "a good hero who fought to bring down tyranny" as Leia Luke and Han. In Thrawn trilogy Thrawn is the main bad as he was Imperial Grand Admiral.

no he didnt fight to bring down tyranny, he fought to restore order - personally i considered C'boath to be the 'evil' character in the Thrawn trilogy

Thrawn wasnt fighting for personal power or glory, he wasnt trying to subjugate 'alien' species, he didnt want to rule through fear - he was interested in galactic order, to provide safety and security for the diverse peoples - for that i dont consider him as 'bad' in any sense of the word

Yes that is true, but as the leader of Galactic Empire he had to be defeated and therefore killed. I would have preferred that he would have survived.
