Crisis in Syria
« on: September 03, 2013, 01:27:23 PM »
Does anyone have information on what is going on in Syria? In America our news stations are useless going on and on about random crap when a war is getting ready to start. All we get to know is there are ships moving into the Gulf to get ready to fire tomahawks.  If you guys could comment with opinions or information thanks.

Same stupid stuff that's been going on for the last 3,000 years. America just feels the need to meddle as usual, even though we financially can't afford to do crap.

Syria is currently in a civil war.
Most of the population is retreating to the syrian borders to escape borders.

The reason the americans are in the gulf is because the syrian army was using chemical weapons, so the americans are preparing for war they not doing anything yet because the president is waiting something (I can't acually remember what it is.) but he can't do anything for about a week or two.

He's awaiting approval from congress to authorize military action.  He is not supposed to authorize action without congressional approval.

Technically he can for 60 days, but that's kind of only supposed to be used in Emergencies.

Hasn't pretty much every president since Truman gone over Congress' head when there was a crisis (from Korea to Iraq)?

As far as I am aware America has not officially declared war since WW2, we may have against Iraq but I know we blew stuff up before doing so.

Yes, there was the "police action" junk that has been used for Korea and Vietnam. I just heard that he can go over Congress's head if he feels the need, and that many other presidents have done so. This information could be wrong though.

He can, although if Congress were to do their job, they would impeach him for doing so, as he is going against his constitutional powers in doing so.

Well, I just heard that the Senate Committee gave the president 90 days to freely lob missiles as long as US soldiers do not set foot in Syria.

Since when has Congress or the Senate done their jobs right? The Star Wars senate wasn't just inspired by the Roman one for it's ineptitude and corruption, it drew quite a few points from America's own.

They used to be pretty common here, actually. This was back in 2007-2008 though, so I don't think more than one or two people would remember any of them (Meyer might). Ended with three people receiving one-week bans which makes up 75% of the total bans we've ever handed out that I can remember. It also resulted in me getting contacted by the parents of some forum members, which was extremely awkward.

Ahahahah how is it that I missed that one, anyway in my opinion I don't see why everyone is so concerned about Syria I mean similar situation happened and not so long ago (Lybia for example) what I think will happen is that the US will interfere and "peace" will come
