Well, its now turned into a war that can't be 'won' in the traditional sense.. since the aim is to set up a democratic government and a national security force capable of maintaining order in its own country, neither of which can be 'won' by killing the enemy.

If the US pulled out now and left Iraq in its current situation (with the security issues, etc) they would lose face in the international community, since it would be seen to be running away from a 'problem' that they caused.

well you have to realize that all I see in news pictures are hippies. I know that those pictures don't represent everyone who is against the war but they give you a picture that everyone who is against is a hippie.

And how would usa lose it's face by pulling out from iraq? in my opinion it would show that usa has the guts to admit that there is no point taking further casualties in a war that has no victor, only those how lose the least. besides I'm pretty sure that if american and it's allie troops would pull back most of the attacks would stop. Now that american forces stay in there I think they must be out of their mind. what's the point of staying in there? What does usa get from having it's soldiers killed in peace time in a foreign country where they are not welcome?

Iraq's security force isnt in a position to take full control at the moment, so if the multinational force left now (and it is multinational, lets not forget there are other countries with soldiers deployed in Iraq), they would be leaving a kind of security vacuum, which could result in an increase in unrest rather than a decrease (although any attacks would not be directed at the multinational force).

Yes, it is true that the multinational forces are becoming less appreciated by the Iraqi people, but it isnt the average civilian performing the attacks, and the Iraqi government wants the multinational force to remain for the time being.

Isnt it better to let the military leaders on the ground in Iraq decide when the time is right to leave, since they are in a better position to understand the situation?

yes. but I think that if the multinational force would leave now and then there would be those unrests you mention, Slornie, it would be all the same for usa. in anycase the terrorist would be too busy to strike on usa itself. and I would rather have 1000 terrorist/iraq "freedom fighter" dead than 1 american or any other soldier from those multinational forces in there.

And how about returning to topic? It seems that everytime there is a conversation about politics and USA, we somehow end up talking should usa and others pull their focrces out of Iraq.
