Boarding ships
« on: April 15, 2008, 09:16:54 PM »
I would like to suggest adding ships capable of boarding enemy ships and taking them over into the mod. possibly for rebellion or even other factions. chiss would be a good candidate as well.

i like the idea but im not sure it would be realistic for the rebellion to successfully board a ship and take it especially considering the size of the imperial ships.

We could make a boarding ship I'm pretty sure, however you would only have that ship for the rest of the battle, it wouldn't carry over to the galactic map.

it seems like that wouldnt be rebellion as much as eoth, chiss, or empire. especially empire because of the whole devastator and tantive IV thing.

i would say mainly chiss since that was a tactic of theirs. possibly empire.

With the boarding ships idea, I dont think it would make sense if you got the ship and 'boarded' an ISD, then you suddenly take control of it, or whatever. Maybe destroy a few of the hardpoints or something, but not take over the full ship (a small band of rebels could not kill the entire garrison of an ISD).

actually most of the crew on an isd would be unarmed. and you could board an isd, you would need many of the ships. i would find it quite possible if you took the bridge section first and worked from there since you would be in control of the ship. also take the auxilary bridge as well.

An ISD had a crew of near 40,000, not including almost 10,000 deployable soldiers.  I think it highly unlikely that you'd be able to take one over with any ease.

I think the chances of successfully boarding and taking an enemy warship in the middle of an ongoing battle to be highly unlikely.

I agree with that. Would it be possible to salvage ships after the battle?

capturing an ISD during space battle? When the crew is on alert? I think that would be extremely difficult.

Isamu; you dont seem to realize how many people were on an ISD. A small team of what, say....5o, or so, could not possibly take out more than a thousand by themselves, much less 50000. It's statistically impossible. The rebels would not have enough ammunition, and if they boarded, they would have to get through most of the ship to get to the bridge wouldnt they. The idea is great, but sadly, it would only work on much smaller ships, and as I said, maybe make it so if they are implemented they take out like one or two hardpoints; not the entire bloody ship (if it's an ISD).

well that may rule out the rebels, but what about like i said before, the empire or chiss have that ability. the empire with it's large ships and huge crews and troops, could easily take over another. again. look to the example of episode 4, with the ISD Devastator and the Tantive IV, those rebels didnt stand a chance
