How would you get exactly 4 gallons of water in a container if you only have a 5 gallon container, a 3 gallon container, and an unlimited supply of water?

Fill the 5-gallon jug, pour three gallons into the 3-gallon jug. Dump out the 3-gallon jug and put the 2 gallons left in the 5-gallon jug into the 3-gallon jug. Fill the 5-gallon jug again. Since there is exactly 2 gallons in the 3-gallon jug, there is one gallon of empty space. Pour 1 gallon from the 5-gallon jug into the 3-gallon jug, leaving you with exactly 4 gallons in the 5-gallon jug

Or, you could have done it this way:

Fill the 3 gallon and pour it into the 5 gallon. Refill the 3 gallon and again, pour it into the 5 gallon leaving 1 gallon left in the 3 gallon. Dump out of water in the 5, fill it with the 1 gallon in the 3 gallon jug and then refill the 3 gallon to pour into the 5 gallon which now has 4 gallons.
