Well I am a long time reader of the comic so i saw it coming somewhat(believe it or not some parts of the comic are WAAAAY worse-for instance the governor's torture of Michonne and vice versa)
I feel like they spot on nailed Negan, for which I was glad. Worried they might water him down, but this is what the show needed, to bring the danger back and the feel of actual doom hanging over the cast. They had gotten a bit cocky of late.

however in tribute to the Fallen...

Yeah I read the comics too I'm at the beginning of the whisper war(Don't Spoil)
They Nail Negan he is fucking scary and... very... very... funny :)
You can watch the full version of the scene with the F*** bombs.
I do think the rape and governor torture are very fucked up in the comics. I wish the show took that route but it be too much like Game of Thrones so people would complain.
