Space ARC Star Cruiser for the Maldrood
« on: September 06, 2016, 11:10:29 AM »
I had a suggestion for a unit for the Maldrood. Its the Space ARC Cruiser.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Space_ARC_Star_Cruiser
Its a 1km long battleship mostly used by the Galderian Space pirates, but some others were also used by the Rebel Alliance. It is supposed to be capable of going toe to toe with ISD MK1s and MC80 Liberty cruisers despite being much smaller than both. I remember Corey mentioning that the Maldrood would have some Pirate units in their roster since they had contact with a lot of pirates. So this is the perfect ship for them since its one of the few larger pirate ships that could make a difference in combat against more advanced NR and IR ships. Let me know what you guys think of this beast.

The forums here are a way better place for discussing ideas than ModDB. ModDb just overflows extremely quickly, it's impossible to actually discuss something there. It's certainly doesn't mean posts will get more attention if they're posted there.

Thanks for the info Corey.  What do you think about the ship though? It seems like a legit pirate ship that could work for the Maldrood as a sort of brawler with its tough armor, but weak shields. And it seems to have pretty decent firepower, but it lacks any AA weaponry that could be its downside. Also it can only carry 2 squadrons of Starfighters, but they are I-Beam Starfighters which are similar to B wings so it could maybe carry more smaller fighters like TIE INT and TIE Bomber.

Another thing I wanted to add to this topic was the fact that the Galderian pirates who used these ships were sometimes employed by the Hutts IIRC. Corey mentioned the Maldrood included a lot of Hutt territory so its not entirely out of possibility this ship could have been employed by the Maldrood.

Maldrood was fighting against the Hutts, usually. I'm not opposed to the idea if we needed to fill a similar slot, although there's a fair amount of design work that would have to go into it.

Oh cool I hope you guys consider adding it its a pretty neat ship that does fill a good smaller capital ship role while still being strong enough to make an impact against other larger ships. The Galderians were pirates so it wouldn't surprise me if they played both sides of the fight between the Hutts and the Maldrood, but they are not mentioned very much or even at all in this time period so its up to debate. As for the model work IIRC the Yuuzhan Vong At War team has a model of this ship maybe you can ask them to use it? but IDK how good your relationship is with them though or if you even know them. At any rate I am hopeful you guys consider adding it since it does fit the bill for the maldrood pretty good. Keep up the good work I cant wait to see the release of 2.2 :).

We make all of our own stuff, and that team uses tens to hundreds of thousands of polygons for no reason (for comparison we keep even our capital ships under 6000), which is a major cause of lag and in a lot of cases just hides some issues with proportions and whatnot in the model. Even if we wanted to ask for theirs, it would be way more work to optimize it than to make our own. What I mean by design work isn't just making the model, it's that it only exists in a side-view, and we'd have to extrapolate from that to figure out what the rest of the ship looks like.
