Shield recharge rates
« on: April 05, 2016, 02:50:24 AM »
Hello everyone(again  :D)
So now I'd like to bring up this specific subject of Shield regeneration on ships, specifically the New Class Capital ships. They have quite high shields, but their shield regeneration is crap. Niw in a GC this isn't too much of a problem, but in skirmish and even more so in survival, it makes them extremely weak. Taking the Nebula as the primary example. The Nebula has around 5110 Shields(dont qoute me ob that). Quite a fair amount considering its firepower, however it has only 20 shield regen. That is 20 every 3 seconds. So lrts do some math on that.
5110/(20/3)=825. That means it requires 766.5 seconds or 12min 46.5s the fully recharge its Shield. The Endurance has the same problem, 5040 Shields ans 20 recharge meaning 756 seconds to fully recharge.
Now, this might be balancing on your part bit that is one thing I'd suggest changing. I played around with it and came up with a way of setting up the recharge rates where i took the total shield strength divided by 100 to get the regeneration rate. I only did this on Non-SSD ships that didnt have Power to Shields and it seems to work well for all factions.

On a side note, why does the Endurance release so few Fighters? Its a fleet Carrier shouldn't it be better as a carrier?

Could you provide an example of what a balanced ship's shield charge time is so that I may have a comparison? How long does it normally take?

I don't know what a better recharge would be, but avoid too fast.  I remember in testing 2.0, the recharge rate was so high that the MC-80B used to be able to stand toe to toe with an Executor, because every time the shields were ready to drop on the MC80B, power to shields would become active again, and they'd actually be able to recharge to 100% even while an Executor was beating on it full blast.

That's not good
but if the main recharge will go up, won't it be a sollution to drop the power to shields' modifier drop some?
It would balance it out.

Well. My point was the New class ships like the Nebula, endurance, Majestic who all have high shields and low recharge but not power to Shields.
As for an example say the Nebula with 50 recharge rate.

Canonically, doesn't it make sense that the ship with larger shields take longer to charge said shields?

Yes, but I do believe that canonically, the modern Nebula or endurance should have Reactor power to more quickly recharge their Shields than the aging Imperial star destroyer. Which currently, in the mod, they don't.

Imperial-Class
5000 Shields
50 Recharge rate
5000/(50/3)=300.
300 seconds or 5 minutes from empty to full
Nebula Star Destroyer
5110 Shields
20 Recharge rate
5110/(20/3)=766.5
766.5 Seconds or 12 minutes 46.5 seconds empty to full
Endurance Carrier
5040 Shields
20 Recharge Rate
5040/(20/3)=756
756 seconds or 12 minutes 10 seconds empty to full
Majestic Cruiser
6000 Shields
25 Recharge Rate
6000/(25/3)=720
720 seconds or 12 minutes empty to full.
Tector-Class
8030 Shields
50 Recharge rate
8030/(50/3)=481.8
481.8 seconds or 8.03 minutes
Syndic Destroyer
6210 Shields
20 Recharge rate
6210/(20/3)=931.5
931.5 seconds or 15 minutes and 31.5 seconds empty to full.
This is also breaking the big Shields longer time.
What this means is that the new class capitals have the slowest recharge rates in the game aside from fighters and Corvettes and the Syndic Destroyer. Who has the worst.

And as a side note, im not counting the Preator, Executor, Sovereign, Eclipse, or Viscount as they are super capitals. And would be unkillable with high shield recharge.

And on another note, the fastest recharge time is on the Escort Carrier with a whopping 36  seconds

I see your point, it would make sense to boost the shield recharge a bit, and if we were to make the nebula and endurance's shields charge faster than the ISD, we would come out at around 4 minutes to fully charge but still remain balanced (at least in my opinion).

I also think the endurance should release more fighters, the amount it releases at a time doesn't really justify it's population cost in my opinion.

I've always felt the Endurance didn't release enough in ICW to justify it's cost.  Now in Ascendency, it's an awesome ship.

I don't own ascendancy, but I would really like to make the endurance useful in this game.  It saddens me when I have to make the decision to cut a cool looking star destroyer (because I think mon cals are ugly) from my fleet due to it  taking up to much population.

Yeah i feel the same. Though on my own copy ive decreased the Pop cost to 6 and made it release 4 E and 2 K-wings with 12 and 6 reserve.

I agree with the shield recharge rates for capital ships in general but I don't agree with the carrier not spawning enough fighters. The only time I've ever over-whelmed the fighters of the new republic with an AI fleet with a couple carriers and I had to spam tons of Venator Star Destroyers. I think you forget how powerful the E-Wings as well as the K-Wings.

And if we are talking about shield recharges, did anyone notice that the golans does not recharge shields at all?

Well, In GC, the golans do recharge shields, just not in skirmish.

No they don't. Between 2 battles yes, since Petroglyph engine maxes out everything(shields, hull yada yada)
But in the middle of a battle it does not recharge.
That's why one can kill a golan 3 if he has enough fighters with no trouble at all.
