HALP! - Terrible, *terrible* capital ship pathing
« on: May 25, 2015, 03:53:02 AM »
So, I've tried my hand at modding. I've done it for almost 5 years in the Company of Heroes series, how bad could it be in EaW

yikes, I was wrong D:

Anywho, I've whipped up a more-canonical mod (corrected the model scales for the AT-AP, AT-ST, and AT-AT, the former fires in a 3 round burst since it has three cannons strapped to it, the latter two fire in their canonical two-round bursts, damage has gone up, infantry range is longer, Stormtroopers are now much more expensive, but effective, and now the Imperial Army is a thing--always peeved me that they didn't represent the bulk of Imperial forces, Pentastar, Remnant, or otherwise), but the one thing I can't fix, it seems, is the ship pathing.

Oy vey.

I am so, so sick of pulling off a great flank, or catching Zzinjchjch (or however his flipping name is spelled--it's always him and his little fleet camping Dathomir) in his SSD picking his nose, and...NOPE, my Venators and Praetors are busy doing donuts about 2 km from the battle, while my IPVs are up front being useful, and my TIEs are...well, dying like TIEs. Is there any way to fix capitals constantly having an identity crisis and going nowhere near where they're ordered, pulling donuts, wheelies, backflips, or just generally not doing whatever the **** I just told them to do? Many thanks o7
Yes, Mr. Kenobi, there are alternatives to fighting. Running, screaming, crying, begging, surrendering, and flat out death.

Nope, it's a weakness of the actual game engine, and nothing can be done to fix it without access to the engines source code to modify it, or if Petroglyph decided to suddenly care about it and fix it all these years after the game was released, which I'd put at SLIGHTLY more likely of our sun going supernova tomorrow.

Yeah, pathing is an engine thing with no accessible files.

That being said, Miller, it's actually the publisher who has to order and approve changes. From my understanding, PG actually wanted to do something about the unit selection freeze but then asn't able to get anything approved. Although it's possible they just acknowledged the PM and stopped there. Pox would know better than I.
I also have a YouTube channel where I talk about mod development and gaming, do tutorials, and Let's Plays. If you like the content, consider supporting it on Patreon

Eh, whoever it would be, it's still slightly more likely than the sun supernova-ing tomorrow.  :D
