If you really want them that bad, SoGE has the Vong. I don't like the Vong in general though, they're honestly a pretty stupid arc that was really unnecessary and ruined a lot of the universe. That said, I think the Hand makes up for the Vong immensely.
That's blasphemy. You cannot possibly be serious (c'mon Xizer, back me up here).
I've found people fall into two categories on the Vong. They either love them or loathe them. I personally thought they were a great addition to the EU which had gotten pretty repetitive, the fulfilled a lot of the need for a true threat to everyone, their back story was solid and their 'tech' was interesting, and quite well thought out by writers. they won most of the battles also for the majority of the war they didn't fall victim to "Plot bunnies" as a lot of previous villains did. They came in, devastated the ENTIRE galaxy in a way that hadn't been seen even during the Dark Empire, Mandalorian and Sith Wars. The battles were well described and involved tactics and adapting rather than just, exhaust port or Jedi so it works. Also the characters they introduced like Nom Anor, Onimi, Harrar, and Vergere(before her retcon as a Sith) were truly good in depth characters that felt real and believable.I was actually rooting for them with the exception of Borleias(gotta love Wedge, Wraiths and Rogues) until they had the audacity to attack my Empire, then I enjoyed watching the Empire send them packing and watch the war's grand conclusion. Honestly that should have wrapped up the Eu. The scale of the conflict was unprecedented, the character development was well done on all parts and most plot points had been wrapped up nicely. So yeah, I liked the vong, I think I even made a good case for them.
I am firmly in the loathe camp. Not because of poor writing or bad characterization, or any other story quality issues; but because of the invasion's effect on the big picture. The Vong war makes the events of the original trilogy completely pointless. Who cares whether the Empire or Rebellion wins, because the Vong are gonna show up in a couple of years and screw everything. They would almost certainly devastate half the galaxy even if they eventually lost to the Empire or NR, so the epic Galactic Civil War becomes instead an exercise in futility.
Isn't that what all wars are though? Merely a time waster, delaying the next war?
I'm in the loathe camp. To me, while well written, just seems like it was "oh, we need another idea to keep the cash flowing in," a thinly veiled cash grab that really had no point in happening, and didn't have anything of usefulness come out of it.
why do u hate america? if it were not for us u guys would be lost. i mean we invented the tv, we invented the internet, cars and we even went to the planet moon. we won all the wars and we always help the little countries who cant fight and we give food to poor people.
See, for me the cash grab starts after the NJO with the Dark Nest trilogy and Legacy of the Force series (not yet read Fate of the Jedi so would be unfair to comment on those stories). LotF in particular seemed to largely be a rehash of the Clone Wars, only without the clones (secret Sith Lord orchestrates a galactic war in order to seize power).
