I'm not sure if this is a preview for a show or what, but it looks awesome.
Makes me wish a show about Rogue Squadron would have been made.

Awesomely made. Seems they have actual canon Star Wars (no plot bunnies) down right. Also, they realize KOTOR series had superior music to the rest of the series...

Would have loved a TIE/X-Wing series. You could have had characters on both sides. Really gotten inside the heads of each and had some great sequences.

Given which side is utterly dominating, I'd say those videos are more inspired by TIE Fighter than by Rogue Squadron. ;)

In fairness, the X-Wing books did usually have at least some viewpoint time spent on the Imperial characters - but you're right in that they weren't the TIE pilots the Rogues were facing, which if well done would've left us readers in the tricky position of not being sure which side we'd want to root for.

Easy for me.  Never rooted for a rebel scum in my life.

Perhaps. While an NR partisan myself, I usually found it hard to root against Imperial characters I genuinely like, most of all Pellaeon, who really is a good guy just doing his job. (Seriously, I wonder why some of these guys didn't just jump ship once they saw what the Empire they served had become.) What the films presented as a simple black-and-white issue became tinged with several shades of gray--not to mention the looming threat of the Vong throwing everything off.

It's something we got largely outside of the movies, and I look for the Expanded Universe of the new canon to deliver it. You're not going to see it in the films. Yes, we're looking at a different Disney than some people think. But it's still a movie and still intended for a general audience, and besides, it's a continuation of the OT, which put things in easily-understood terms: the dudes with the gray ships and the guy in the black armor with the breathing problem were the bad guys. Hopefully the new canon's books, games, and comics can make an honest effort to recapture the complexities inherent in this war.

Quite so.  Even a character like Kirtan Loor, if written well enough (and he was), can be a somewhat sympathetic one.  As to why those like Pellaeon didn't leave, it was I think fairly simple - while they thought that the Empire was doing sometimes questionable things, they viewed the idea of returning to "democratic anarchy" as worse (many of these people being old enough to remember the Clone Wars and the Old Republic's systemic weaknesses).  For the Hand of Judgement, that was the explicit reason they didn't hook up with the Rebellion after leaving the Empire, and instead simply continued enforcing the law and weeding out corruption on their own.

Oh, and http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-the-original-trilogy-mod is a WIP Freespace 2 Open Star Wars mod that gives a small taste of what we could have if they ever decided to make a new X-Wing style game.  Only a handful of missions, and they're far from fully fleshed out, but if you want a half hour or so of Star Wars combat with fairly modern graphics and very hectic combat...

X-Wing A wonderfull rapide fire, zhield, 70/90 battle zpeed, hyperdrive, manoeuvrable....

But if you take rebel, don't expect any azziztant the primary force of the rebelz are their ztar fiighterz !!!! Zo you have to do all the job !!!!

IIRC, in X-Wing series games X-wings and TIE fighters both cruise at 100 units, with X-wings able to outpace TIEs significantly with all power going to engines since the x-wings have shield power to divert as well as laser power - even Interceptors (cruise 111) are outpaced by the X-wing that way, I believe.  A-wings clock around 120 in cruise, TIE Avengers around 133 and Defenders 144.

Of course, in reality in space speed is an entirely relative term - you'd measure acceleration rates rather than max speed when comparing vessels, but I figure we can approximate those from the game speed figures.

Honestly, though, the only thing the basic TIE fighter excels at is being cheap enough to be disposable - you'll be hard-pressed to find another Star Wars fighter that wouldn't be an overall better ship.

The really crappy one from X-Wing Alliance? Sure beats my pick.

If you include uglies, yes, even more pathetic than the Pinook fighter.  However, of factory produced, I think you'll have a hard time coming up with something more useless than the Pinook.
