Corey's Top 5: Mods We Didn't Make
« on: January 15, 2014, 03:05:25 PM »
This may sound like I'm going to be ranking the top 5 mods made by other people. That would be like modding suicide, so instead I'm going to rank the top 5 mods which the Thrawn's Revenge team has planned in the past but never did. Codeuser, Zer and I were talking about this a few days ago and I thought it might be fun to talk about things we never actually told anyone about.

5. Like 8 Total War mods.
Not much to say about these other than that they were a terrible idea that Codeuser and I used to toy with, around 2007-2008. I think we wanted to do an Asian mod for Rome: Total War, or a Middle Eastern one. We obviously never went anywhere with it, but it was a pretty bad idea to begin with.

4. Galactic Uprising
This mod started by Codeuser in 2007ish is the thing that gave gutr the GU to our TR. Galactic Uprising was a Command and Conquer (3?) Star Wars mod that actually got quite a bit of its art assets done, but never actually got past that point. Some of the earlier TR models were actually made for GU and then just switched between the mods like we're doing with Ascendancy now.

3. The Rest of Thrawn's Revenge
Technically we made this into a minimod, but that doesn't count. Initially, Thrawn's Revenge was divided into four mods. Empire of the Hand (R1), which was during the original Galactic Civil War era and was meant to detail the rise of the Empire of the Hand, Imperial Civil War (R2) which is the only one we actually ended up making (and which should help explain why everyone else calls it "Thrawn's Revenge" when I refer to it almost exclusively as ICW), Fall of the Republic (R3) which was about Outbound Flight until the end of the Clone Wars, and the unnamed Vong War mod which was about the Vong, obviously. We still have a lot of our material for this, and it makes up a lot of the Pentastar's unit list.

Screenshots:
1. CIS Fleet render
2. Vong Teaser we usually use to trick people on April Fools Day
3. Eta-2 render
4. AAT render
5. Homing Spider Droid render
6. Super Battle Droid render

2. Ascension
While we technically didn't make this mod, it was what inspired Ascendancy. The original idea came about in 2011, when we had the idea that we wanted to switch from modding EaW to modding Sins of a Solar Empire. The basic premise was to have  really different factions somewhat inspired by ancient Rome, Carthage, and something else I don't remember. The main concepts we had solidified were that each faction should really feel like they play differently, but ultimately we decided that it would be better to do a Star Wars mod once we couldn't nail down acceptable faction aesthetics and really wanted to use the EotH stuff in Sins, so we essentially kept the name and turned it into what you know now as Ascendancy, with the Empire of the Hand using one of the models we made as the new Warlord in the EotH restoration project.

1. Arkesian faction logo.

1. Attack of the Food
And finally, the mod that I'm really writing this to talk about. Me and Codeuser both really loved this idea and it still makes me sad that we didn't use it. The premise was that different food factions would fight each other by shooting ketchup, mustard, and whatever other condiments you could think of at each other in Empire at War. It was completely ridiculous, but we got a lot of the initial artwork done and I probably still have it somewhere. I think I even had the fried ingame at one point.

2. Pizza, Cheese and Celery Destroyer models
3. The Hotdog Supership
I also have a YouTube channel where I talk about mod development and gaming, do tutorials, and Let's Plays. If you like the content, consider supporting it on Patreon

I could stand to see a loading screen image for AotF.  Now we can just reference AotF and see how long it takes for people to pull their hair out in confusion.
Did you see that?  Know what that cost?  $58,000.  I mean, what a waste.  It wasn't even funny.  That's $58,000 that could have gone to curing leukemia.  Or.  muscular dystrophy.  Or... what does Michael J. Fox have?  That.  Alright, let's watch some damn cartoons.
