New Factions
« on: December 28, 2013, 01:19:04 AM »
Hi there. I have read a large number of the books and played a quite a few mods as well as read everything I could get my hands on Theoretical side books and source books. There are a large number of secondary Faction in the Universe besides the hapes Consortium and Duskhan League, even during the New Republic Era. Was Wondering What playable Factions would you like to see further down the line in the mod?

Me I wouldn't mind seeing either the Chiss or the CSA

Well (not to down your idea) the Empire of Hand are the Chiss (plus some since they don't actually have much actual units in the EU). As for the CSA if you play as the PA and get to Corporate Space you get a new ship (in the next version). Additionally (and unfortunately) EAW can't really handle any more factions as the smaller ones do nothing and more factions gets the game closer to the "dreaded freeze". But it'd be fun to hear what kind of ideas you'd have for the Chiss or CSA :)
How do I even

Also you already run into the problem for PA that they can't capture abandoned heavy vehicle factories correctly.  This is unfixable as the mod has a built in limit of 3 factions for autospawning of those units apparently.  So any other minor factions that were put into the mod would also have this problem.

Chiss wouldn't make for a very good addition.  They were notably insular, only defending their existing space, not trying to expand or attack anyone.  It was, in fact, against their laws as a society to do preemptive strikes.  It wasn't until pretty much the end of this mod's timeframe they really had any REAL dealings with the galaxy at large, and even then, it was mostly because/through the Empire of the Hand.

The Empire of the Hand is Different from the chiss however in the mod they do incorporate many of the same units and planets. The Empire of the hand has a large number of Imperial Ships in its fleets not just Tributary ships. I am talking about complete factions, though I know that it is very unlikely that there will be a time when you can get all the factions in a mod (it would be interesting to see). This would possibly happen if they release a new game but the chance of that happening are slim. there are other minor factions but they do not have a large number of ships like the Mandalorians but if it was possible to have a type of game where if you capture the capital planet or shipyards you can get their ships.

The CSA don't have many capital ships but bought their larger ships from other navys though I understand the that Penstar has many of the same ships
The Chiss does have many of the same types of ships but there are a lot of forces out in the Unknown Regions, like the Vagaari,  Ssi-ruuvi Imperium as well as a lot of pirates.

Well the thing with the CSA is they are already sort of represented in the PAs ranks, creating them would bring nothing new and just make a small faction between Zsinj, PA and NR that would die very fast.

As to the Unknown regions forces, the idea's been pitched quite a bit but shot down for sound reasons before.

It's been suggested a few times but deemed too unworkable to represent them both accurately and balnced

What about the Empire Reborn? The Empire Reborn is much like the Pentastar Alingment, as it has lots of Dark Jedi (i.e. Reborn and Shadowtroopers).

Wouldn't mind seeing the Doomgiver, but otherwise The Empire Reborn is just too irrelevant make an appearance.

And even MORE reliant on outdated technology than the PA was.  Almost their entire navy was composed of Clone Wars era ships.

The Empire Reborn is just basically a splinter faction of the Empire. It largely depends on Dark Jedi empowered by the Valley of the Jedi, augmented by Galak Fyyar's experiments with the Artusian crystals. It also had some standard-issue Imperial war materiel. Yet the possibility of having Lord Hethrir as a hero unit would be next to irrelevant.

I view Star Wars technology as stagnant and cyclical, so in my opinion new ship models always have more to do with changing military doctrines and image issues (Jedi Cruisers -> Imperial Star Destroyers, Super Star Destroyers -> Star Defenders) than entirely new technology.

Still, an entire faction using nothing but Clone Wars era ships thirty years after the War is just boring, especially in a game setting where PA already has them.

@StarLordX: The Empire Reborn didn't control nearly enough territory to be a threat to even to the regional powers in the Galaxy. By comparison, the Pentastar Alignment may have controlled one of the most isolated portions of the Outer Rim, but their territory also had Velcar Free Commerce zone and the Galactic banking capital in Muunilinst. Kaine also brought some of his Oversector Outer forces with him, so he possessed significant military assets (Kaine abandoning the Rim likely contributed greatly to New Republic's early successes after Endor). Empire Reborn never controlled anything remotely close to the political, economic and military power of the Alignment.

Both PA and NR already have access to Jedi units. PA has Clone Wars era ships. Both PA and IR have standard issue Imperial war material. They bring very little to the table in terms of new gameplay elements.

I love Jedi Outcast, but this is not the right platform for them.

I'd disagree, there's a pretty sharp increase in the number of weapons on ships beween the Clone Wars and the Galactic Civil War on. Even during the period there's the progression between stuff like the ISDI, ISDII and Nebula SD. It's also supported by the fact that there are places where technology is specifically stated in-universe as stagnating for a long time, like the Hapes Consortium, which suffered for it and had to be given the new technology to catch up. If I had to guess an in-universe rationale for how things get stronger as time goes on since they're effectively just plopping more weapons on the same surface area, it would be that the main technological improvements were power generators that were capable of supporting more weapons.
