The Imp's lancers pretty much wiped out the New Republic's fighter advantage, which let the Imps pick off the frigates one at a time.

Not NECESSARILY a bad thing. If say, you're onboard a Sovereign SSD and they have no capital ships in that system...

Nah, no capital ships is a waste of a Sovereign... you want just a handful without a ton of fighter support, so you can blast one or two and let the others flee to spread a tale of woe and terror, and of course your supreme power.

It's much more fun to watch them flee, interdict them, then set and slowly pound them mercilessly while they scream in horror.
