What New Republic Commander would you serve under?

Though I am a Loyal Son of the Empire I have some great admiration for a few New Republic Commanders even if I deplore their rebel affiliation.
So who would you serve with, who of these rebels earned your respect?

Wedge, because he's the bestest!! Eating A'Boat would be a close second though, probably. Ackbar has too high a failure rate to serve under him.

I had to go with Wedge too. He's all around a great commander and a generally likeable character.(Plus who can hate on the Rogues and Wraiths?) Though I'd serve with Bel Iblis or Nantz too as close seconds to Wedge with A'bhat running a near third. Both are tough old soldiers who earned my respect in the novels and comics. Never liked Ackbar too much(What is with him and traps anyway? I mean Endor, Bilbringi, Ciutric, Metellos, Yavin, come on man!) and while Dodonna was touted as a great tactician we really don't get to see much of his abilities save for the Death Star attack which resulted in 97% casualties for the rebel attackers(Not my IDEAL concept of a good plan). Cracken and Drayson were more sabotage and assassination(Which ironically they used Imperial Methods in their 'pure ideals') Sien Sovv in my opinion was a joke and Krefay was a decent front line commander but we only saw him against the Vong and he didn't really win too many victories there to be honest.

Obviously it'd be Wedge, although Bel Iblis might also be interesting.

Wedge. So good even the imperials respect him. Bel Iblis would definitely be in second place though. I know almost nothing about the other guys, and Han and Luke never really impressed me as being skilled commanders.

Garm, with Wedge a close second.  After that, I'd mutiny before I served with any of the others.

Bel Iblis would be my choice as he is the only one I could respect and who has shown genuine skill. Ackbar is the most overrated commander there is having won both Endor and Bilbringi, his greatest victories, with dumb luck and Wedge, while excellent pilot, seems like another rebel who just happens to be great at anything he does.

Why mutiny? You know that in the EU the NR is never allowed to lose, no matter how boneheaded its commanders are.

Why mutiny? You know that in George Lucas's Star Wars the NR is never allowed to lose, no matter how boneheaded its commanders are.

Fixed to make sense.

What about masterminding Ebaq 9?  Although not necessarily a tactical genius, Ackbar definitely demonstrated a strong grasp of military strategy and during the Rebellion was a key player in building up the Alliance military on less than a shoe-string budget.

Ackbar is only good for one thing, to pop up and point out the obvious "it's a trap!!"

Even so, he always seemed like a fairly capable commander. I'm surprised to see he hasn't gotten a single vote thus far. Mind you, I haven't read all the books, so I only know a few snapshots of success from his career.

Okay I'm just going to throw this out there, everyone KNEW by the time of Ebaq how the Vong behaved and a child could have lead them into traps(I cite Borleias, the Well of the World brain and other occasions where the Vong's personality was used against them as examples) The book characters just all of a sudden acted like Ackbar had this epiphany no one else could understand. They are fanatics that don't retreat? They are obsessed with Jedi? They don't question orders? Hello! Etahn knew this, Wedge knew this, Pellaeon knew this, Bel Iblis knew this, but it takes a retired fish to put it into a plan and suddenly it's original and brilliant?

And lets face it Tsavong Lah was NOT a military genius. His battlefield success had more to do with overwhelming force and political interference in his opponents than any innate tactical ability of his own. Coruscant by all accounts was atrocious, his micromanagement of Borleias killed his own father, and his blind obsission and reverence for gods led him to his death when early in the battle it was clear EVEN to his SUBORDINATES he had gone into a trap.

It was rumored Fey'lya didn't recall ackbar due to his old rivalry, but I wouldn't have called him back due to his LOVE of falling into enemy traps himself!

I agree with Lord Xizer, Ebaq was won by the "good" guys because the Vong and their believes prevented them from adapting to changing situation. As for Ackbar's role in building the rebel military, didn't that take something like 20 years and was only complete after Bastion Accords were signed. And the rebel strategy to win the Empire was simply take down one warlord at a time. A wise strategy, I agree, but hardly brilliant.

And let's face it, the NR's successes against the Empire and it's successor states owed far more to the Imperial Civil War(and plot bunnies) than their own military prowess.

I chose him for his adaptability and creativity. He practically revolutionized small unit tactics, snubfighter techniques and then applied those to capital ships successfully.
