They used to be pretty common here, actually. This was back in 2007-2008 though, so I don't think more than one or two people would remember any of them (Meyer might). Ended with three people receiving one-week bans which makes up 75% of the total bans we've ever handed out that I can remember. It also resulted in me getting contacted by the parents of some forum members, which was extremely awkward.

Guess it's fun remembering how young some of the people are here.

I would think people would be concerned (ignoring the amount of media being put towards it, which tends to help people pay attention every once and a while) either because the whole fiasco with chemical weapons or the fact that they don't like the part where the US interferes.

One difference is that the Libya incursion and no-fly-zone was supported by a UN Resolution - something not forthcoming in the case of Syria.

Summary of my professor's/my own thoughts:

Obama backed himself into a corner by saying chemical weapons were the red line, probably thinking Assad wouldn't go that far and essentially giving both sides carte blanche to do whatever they wanted while still giving America time to formulate who it actually wanted to end up in charge/let them just stay out of it while still trying to put up a front. But then the chemical weapons were used, so now Obama's bluff's been called and the Russians are trying (currently only partially successfully) to give everyone a way out without anyone looking weak/having to invade anyone else.

I was expecting Israel to intervene, given the usual clashes at the Golan Heights (which is currently under Israeli control). Israel always had a policy of launching counterstrikes on the enemy whenever their territory is threatened, as was the case in the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War.

I don't even need to go that far, 4 miles away from where I live will do just as well or even go into town most of the places there are just plain awful.
