Have you completed a GC campaign?
« on: July 28, 2013, 01:55:35 PM »
I have a hard time completing large GC scenarios before freezing to death.  What campaigns have you completed and how many weeks did it take?
Did you see that?  Know what that cost?  $58,000.  I mean, what a waste.  It wasn't even funny.  That's $58,000 that could have gone to curing leukemia.  Or.  muscular dystrophy.  Or... what does Michael J. Fox have?  That.  Alright, let's watch some damn cartoons.

Essence of War in under 90 weeks to my knowledge.
Though it required me to fight it out manually almost every fight very conservatively so not to take loses to keep the blitz going. Most of the time was used to build up forces for my blitz.

I've managed to complete at least once:

Stars Align
Fractured Empire
Hunt for Zsinj
Shadow Hand
Reunification
Black Fleet Crisis

I have never managed to complete Art of War or Essence of War before the freeze.

I have completed each campaign once accept for Art of War and FTGU.  I once made it to 194 weeks and one planet away from victory on FTGU.  That said, I have played other mods where hundreds upon hundreds of units were destroyed and a campaign took 145 weeks to complete (no freeze).  It was so intense, I don't know how the freeze wasn't triggered.  I am wondering if those modders have found a way around the freeze.

I doubt it.  Probably less cpu vs. cpu battles in those mods.

If CPU vs CPU factors into the equation, yes, there were only two factions instead of 3 or 4.

Well yeah completed most of them tough it get's difficult to star, specially when I use another faction that is not IR. only in bigger GC I hit the freeze like final imperial push, EoW or AoW

I've completed many, if not all of them.
The Stars Align, Fractured Empire, Hunt For Zsinj, Into the Cluster, Empires at War, Thrawn Campaign, Shadow Hand, Black Fleet Crisis, Final Imperial Push, EoW, AoW and now ICW.
Never did run into the "Freeze" only had some crashes a few times when the era system had some bugs

I don't really have the patience to reach the freeze, but I have completed Essense of War and Thrawn's campaign.

What is your typical playing style that enables you to avoid the freeze?

I haven't run into the freeze yet, the only GC's I haven't completed are Essence of War, Empires at War, Black Fleet Crisis and Final Imperial Push. Lately I've been playing Essence of War, and I'm a bit apprehensive that it might rear its ugly head at any moment...

Two ways

First is to go on full assault immediately with your starting fleet(easier if you are the IR, PA or EotH in early GCs) and make cheap units to orbit the planets you defeat the space fleets and keep going. Then bring in Ground units after securing the main shipyards and as many medium ones as possible. The Ai thinks it is beat and makes very few units. You must not stp though, it must be a continuous assault.

Two
Often if it's a large GC(AoW etc) I will damage a lot of ships in battles but not blow the engines, they fall back and I autoresolve 1/3 of the time which will normally kill the shipyard and Golans but the AI will get it's ships out. If they have lots of ships that don't get destroyed they don't build too many more. (Hyping in next to the shipyard and destroying it will also get the AI to run 9 times out of 10) Repeat and keep on the offense.
