I don't count Rukh to thrawns mistake list because he didn't now that Rukh was an enemy. You can't protec yourself from something if you don't know it's desire to kill you. Thrawn's death is similar to many Roman Emperor's who were killed by their own bodyguard unit, Praetorian Guard.

Hehehe, an even number and the lowliest Imperial could take them out with ISDs! In such climatic type battle there is no strategy! Its just see which ships survive the punishment. In this battle Isds win! But if you add in equal support then strategy comes in to play. All were marveled by Thrawn's sheer genius in the Trilogy. Ackbar was losing. He could not have won in any period in either's life. He ate every opponent for breakfast! In his twenties (while all other Chiss were at beer parties) he slaughtered that Federation fleet with only six or something like that) small battle cruisers without breaking a sweat. As he subsequently did to that Vaagari fleet with only a few crates of idiot battle droids! Hes a genius! Ackbar has only told people the obvious in any Star Wars media: Shoot! In one book he recognized a manuever and that is the only the thing I can think of. He lost to a starfighter pilot (Wedge)! (Jedi Academy trilogy)

Thrawn won a trade federation fleet that consisted:
2 Lucrehulk-class battleships
Darkvenge
Keeper
6 armed Hardcell-class transports
7 Trade Federation escort cruisers
3,000 Vulture droids

and Thrawn had three small cruisers and nine fighters.

I think he could have caused losses to the enemy but he wouldn't have been able to defeat them. and Ackbar's casualties would have been high.

But Thrawn lost nothing. The only way Thrawn could be beat is by massive (it would have to really be massive in order to beat Thrawn) number disadvantage.

Aside from dying, unless you consider being killed by your own bodyguard remarkable which it kinda is

Roman emperor's did that all the time. most of them were killed by their own bodyguards and soldiers.
