Hardest GC scenario
« on: May 27, 2013, 05:32:20 AM »
Hi guys, I was just wondering what GC everyone thought was the most difficult or their favorite and why? For me it's 'Reunification' as the Imperial Remnant, starting with just 4 ISD's and 2 planets with the New Republic breathing down your neck in era 4 and no SSD's and no starting capital ship yard I've always found it to be a challenge (an enjoyable one though).

Reunification is probably my favorite GC, I love gradually building up my forces from next to nothing by knocking off the warlords. As for the hardest one, I think that might be From The Ground Up. Playing as the IR or Eoth you get absolutely swarmed by hordes of Bothan assault cruisers, not to mention you have to deal with an indecent number of Viscounts. One time playing as the Eoth I was attacked by a fleet containing 36 Bothan cruisers, 3 Viscounts, 29 Coronas and more carriers than I care to accurately remember. That was within the first twenty minutes of gameplay.

I still remember playing Reunification one time, I had retreated back up, taken Calmari, Yavin, Bimmisaari and Kessel and I just got pounded repeatedly by wave after wave of Nebula's and Endurance's. Difficult is an understatement

Final Imperial Push if the EotH and NR get aggressive right away. It's tough because as the IR you don't have the resources to replace losses like the NR does. You can win a dozen battles but lose 1 or 2 ships in each and it can cripple you.

I'm not sure if I've done 'Final Imperial Push' as the Imperial Remnant yet, I'll have to give it a go later on.

From the ground up any faction because the ai don't attack byss so they leave a massive fleet above it which includes a sovereign-class. (and the ground isn't that easy either). But please don't change the forces on it because it's so fun to do.

Put it on Admiral Dif. If you don't knock out the EotH quick it's a nightmare, their ground forces tear the IR's to pieces(especially as the IR has very light starting army, the Imperial Navy still packs a punch but you can't afford losses and the economy is almost flatlined, takes a while and a lot of victories to get that fixed, otherwise your enemies steamroll you

The problem is that on hard or medium, the NR automatically has at least 2 Viscounts in the game + the Lusankya, so nabbing Adumar, Bilbringi, Abregado-Rae, and Kauron are a must if you want to build up your defences and a stable economy. Build loads of tax offices on Bastion, Muunilinst, Anx Minor, Kalist IV and Abregado.

Or you could just build up your forces in the Core, wait for the EotH and NR to duke it out, leaving their planets badly weakened, then kick them out as soon as possible, as I did last time! I recommend building lots of Tie Defenders for hit and run attacks here.

I alway put it on 'Admiral' difficulty, it feels like you're cheating otherwise (even though I sometimes get my ass handed to me)

The only problem with waiting it out is you risk running into the freeze!

I hate the freeze, I like to take my time, take each planet, secure it then move onto the next till I crush all other factions but unfortunately due to the freeze I never get to finish any of the big GC's (I still play them though, just until they freeze).

That's how I like to do it also.  On Art of War/Essence of War, I've had the freeze happen as early as Week 130...

It's so disappointing when it happens, all your hard work gone. I do quite like starting again from scratch though, that's always a challenge but it'd be nice to finish one of the big ones occasionally.
