Introducing the Xbox One
« on: May 23, 2013, 04:20:24 AM »

The new information for gaming on the console was great, but it really leaves me wondering whether it can do TV, too, and if there's gonna be a new Call of Duty game.
I also have a YouTube channel where I talk about mod development and gaming, do tutorials, and Let's Plays. If you like the content, consider supporting it on Patreon

I'm not sure I've seen as bad an unveil as this. So many negatives to this console it's astounding.

The sarcasm is strong with this one.

Not to be too elitist here, but I can't justify buying console when I have a perfectly good PC.  It's a lot of money and what you can do on it... the internet already has that covered.  Maybe when I have money coming from my wazzoo I'll buy a console just to get access to those console specific games.
Did you see that?  Know what that cost?  $58,000.  I mean, what a waste.  It wasn't even funny.  That's $58,000 that could have gone to curing leukemia.  Or.  muscular dystrophy.  Or... what does Michael J. Fox have?  That.  Alright, let's watch some damn cartoons.

The justification from owning one is usually in the form of "My favorite Game Dev makes games for it." Or "It's a great party favor.".

I just plain don't like consoles.  They don't offer any copelling reason to me to get one since they don't offer anything unique.  Sure I miss out on a few games, but I'm ok with that.  Most of the games I like are only really GOOD with KB/Mouse anyway, so no problems there.

I understand now. Why Microsoft didn't talk about games at the conference. You know E3 is like tomorrow, right.

That is their chance to talk about games, the first conference was to entertain the masses with flashy lights and telling them that they can watch tv on their tv using the Xbox One. It was catering to those out there that actually thought the Kinect was a nifty idea. And those that play CoD exclusively/ once  and call themselves gamers. It was for the 'casual' gamers.

In fact they said before the conference it was not going to be about games.

At E3 they HAVE to talk about games and get some straight forward questions answered accurately or they are going to alienate all the 'Hardcore' gamers out there. E3 is their chance to redeem themselves and pull something epic out of their ass. They better of learned from the first conference and listened to feedback and have a kickass E3 demonstration set and ready.

Microsoft was/is just trying to increase its' revenue by catering to the masses and not the 'Hardcore'. E3 will decide if the console succeeds or dies in the eyes of the 'Hardcore', but it may go on to be the most successful console ever if it reveals 'Angry Birds for Xbox One'. Gaming is more mainstream now and the 'hardcore' are becoming the minority and that is why they talked about tv for your tv, it is simple to understand. CoD is a game that has become mainstream and so they talked about it, for the 'casuals', and dogs are pretty neat so lets talk about dog, the masses like dogs. They are just accommodating the 'casual' gaming demographic, the majority. The reality is 'HardCore' gamers are the minority now.

PS4 is obviously going to focus heavily on gaming so as to make 'the one' look bad after all the blow-back Microsoft got. But the PS 4 reveal was worse then the Xbox One, it revealed almost nothing except that PS 4 is going to cater to indie developers, something 360 always did.

It will be interesting to see how this year plays out, we are on the pinnacle of a new age of gaming. Not a new generation but a new age and the choices both the industry and the consumers make now are positioned to set the standards and the practices for some time to come.

This is all my opinion but as I said, it will be interesting to see how this year plays out.

Here, for lols:

Here is some information on 'the One'.

I mostly just find it funny how the majority of the conference was dedicated to upselling services that most hardcore gamers abandoned a while ago (you still need a cable subscription to get the TV services) as well as focusing on a lot of stuff which isn't available at all outside of North America. The Xbox Home screen is essentially going to be filled with apps that are useless for Europeans, for example.

I agree. Especially as an Australian this concentration on cloud gaming is really not good. Australian's just don't have the speeds or the limits to download things on demand. Even this connect every 24 hours will be a problem for me,  my internet is especially shizen, 30 kb/s (if I am luck) satellite connection. I can't/ am incapable of getting anything better then that, I have tried.

While I'm still not happy with some of the policies Microsoft has adopted with the new Xbox I have to say some of the trailers/gameplay shown today were pretty cool. Titan Fall, Quantum Break and Ryse caught my eye. Plus is was nice to see some new Battlefield and The Witcher 3 footage. I am quite surprised that they're going after the early DLC thing for both Call of Duty and Battlefield.
