Infinites Bugged?
« on: November 16, 2012, 03:12:40 AM »
I was playing around with one of the infinites that gives you only one starting planet and I noticed that the AI factions are retardedly OP or just really quick at conquering the warlord systems. As in they are halfway around the map conquering rim systems by like week 3 rather than conquering the systems that should be right by them. By week 30-40 the AI just posts up Viscounts/Supers in border systems and starves me because I'm still poor and have no capital yards yet. I don't even know why they have four Viscounts, I thought there was a limit of one that could be used, and a lifetime limit of 3.

It's not as bad playing NR because they seem to have some high income systems within reach, whereas Carida+the surrounding is just goat farms. But the issue remains that there's about 7-8 Praetors randomly guarding the frontier, and about half of them only count for 3 supply.

The AI is not very good, so in the Infinities GC, they're always given more systems to start with than the player. I believe it's like 4-5 for each main AI faction.

If you're struggling, you should be a little more proactive, be willing to retreat from battles (early on no one has Interdictors), and be willing to lose space battles but fight ground defenses to hold your own systems. You can hop around and wreck the AI's space stations to prevent them from building forces quickly, even if you don't invade to fight ground battles.
"That's not what the Empire would have done, Commander. What the Empire would have done was build a super-colossal Yuuzhan Vong-killing battle machine. They would have called it the Nova Colossus or the Galaxy Destructor or the Nostril of Palpatine or something equally grandiose. They would have spent billions of credits, employed thousands of contractors and subcontractors, and equipped it with the latest in death-dealing technology. And you know what would have happened? It wouldn't have worked. They'd forget to bolt down a metal plate over an access hatch leading to the main reactors, or some other mistake, and a hotshot enemy pilot would drop a bomb down there and blow the whole thing up. Now that's what the Empire would have done."

A great way to wreck the AI's space stations early on is by using a Dreadnaught cruiser. Keep them back as reinforcements by sending in only one fighter group and have that fighter fly towards the station from the side of the map. When you see the station, jump in the dreadnaught behind the station with 2 to 4 bomber wings and tell the dreadnaught to overload its weapons. The station will fall very quick. Then just retreat or if you feel lucky kill one or two smaller frigates if you have the chance.
