era system question

First off great mod.
 
  The one thing I can't seem to figure out is how you transition from one era to another.  For example one GC map I just loaded said eras 1-5.  I think I read somewhere this has to do with killing off your heroes, but frankly I'm at a loss.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The eras are entirely tied to 5 specific heros; the leader of the Imperial faction. These are Ysanne Isard, Grand Admiral Thrawn, the Reborn Emperor Palpatine, Admiral Natasi Daala and Gilad Pellaeon.

As the New Republic, Pentastar Alignment, and Empire of the Hand, if you want to progress to the next era, then you need to hunt down and kill those Imperial heroes.

If you want to change eras as the Imperial Remnant, you need to get those heroes killed. However, progressing eras does not necessarily mean you're getting better technology.
