I would really like a Total War-style full diplomacy. After all, many times different groups worked together, or at least were left in peace.
Edit: And if I think about it more, a Total-War style faction system too. Because the remnant at this point (until daala gassed the warlords) was more like a confederation of different groups working together(more or less depending on the situation).
The New Republic was what it's name said. A republic and it's member worlds would have an impact on what was going on. The more members it had, the harder it became to actually govern it.
So, you know. would be very interesting

Trade deals with minor smuggler groups
Hire able pirates.
pirate controlled worlds
Chances for imperial planets to become warlords
Causing resistances
high jacking enemy ships
NR Racism

Gambling operations
Black markets
Brothels
Hutt Cartel
Civil War
Dash Rendar

Yeah. A full diplomatic track, government styles that actually mean something in the gameplay (like what you said in regards to the NR, also apply the autocratic rule to the Empire, the potential for entire sectors to revolt if you make them unhappy). Also being able to have multiple ground and space battles going at once.

Pathfinding definitely would need to be fixed. That is a huge pain. It would be nice if they'd actually fix the freeze too while they're at it.

It was a pointless episode, but they nailed Thrawn.
Its a shame that we didn't get the 181st in The Antilles Extraction.
I just want Baron Fel and Thrawn Smirking as they kick the rebel fleet's ass.
They are setting up a major loss for the rebellion soon and maybe the death of a crew member. (In Aftermath Wedge says after his first mission he had a broken leg and work on a Rebel Freighter as a gunner and the empire harm some one he loved which might be sabine)

I wouldn't quite say that. It was a character development episode. It introduced Thrawn to the uninformed, and showed how he works. He knows how the Rebel cell will respond now, and will use it against them. It also shows not all Imperial high-ups are maniacal 2D cardboard cutouts.

With the next episode we got the last battle of the Grand Army of the Republic
The question I have is this.... Thrawn has only appeared in 2 episodes which means one of three things
1(unlikely) He is the villain for Season 3-4
2( possibly)He will disappear after season 3
3(Possibly but I don't want to happen) He dies during his Grand Victory Against the Rebel Fleet during the final episode of season 3.

The theories that kallus is the information broker have a major problem. If Kallus was to defect he would of and made sure all the rebels knew and Thrawn isn't a f***ing Dumbass. He saw Ezra coming form a mile away, and he would plan for traitors. Thrawn also isn't cruel to his men and understands them so he would understand Kallus' problems. This isn't a one dimensional bad guy he didn't seem to really support how the empire is going about controlling Ryloth and other ways the empire controlled worlds. The battle of Baton probably didn't go fully to Thrawn's plan.

Slightly off subject but I was wondering if anyone else here was curious about Kosh Teradoc. As a relatively new addition to the EU he's not too covered with detail. Yet apparently he was a gifted tactician who salvaged an unwinnable situation with the GM until his assassination

Highly unlikely I would have thought; why bother reintroducing an iconic Legends character only to throw him aside after one series? I think it's more likely that they'll try to retain some of the mystery around the character and keep him in the background some, using intermediary characters (such as Governor Pryce) to relay his instructions or strategy.

to be honest, I don't really think that they would bring back Thrawn just to kill him. Remember the huge backlash when it was announced that he was not canon?
Now imagine what they would get if they would kill him right away.
Disney is good in something, and that something is marketing. They sure know that there is a great potential in thrawn. They won't blow it.

See I think Thrawn is being set up for something big.
So either
A: He is the villain for Season 3-4 and potentially the final season.(really a stretch)
B: He will disappear after season 3 When he scores a major victory against the rebel Fleet.

If B does happen that could mean we could see a couple things
1: Bounty Hunters
2: Vader (again)
3: Zsinj (really a big stretch)
4: Lord Shadowspawn and his black hole troopers
5: Jerec
6: A brand new character
7: Rae Sloane
8: The 501st Legion/Vader's Fist(This would be Interesting for Rex to fight his former Unit)
9: Cody
10: New ships
11: A battle between master and Apprentice.
12: Saw Gerra

Or maybe, bearing in mind the Rebels usually have to win, the series will end with the Ghost crew miraculously saving the day (or so they think) and Thrawn get's demoted and exiled to the Unknown Regions for the next few years!

I'm actually interested in how far they go with Rebels in terms of the timeline. Obviously we're still quite clearly in pre-ANH territory, but might they keep the show going past Battle of Yavin and into the OT period proper? One thing I would like to see is Perry/Reaves Death Star novel revived; maybe the characters from that could be worked into post-DS Rebels?

I doubt they go that far though. Dave filoni said that during the making of the Anttlies Extraction that they were going to have Biggs and a Easter egg where in season 1 Sabine wore a checker mark on her shoulder. The Easter egg was that Sabine(if Biggs was in the episode) design his helmet which also had a checker design. But the name would change to something else and the bigger problem these Jedi cant be around by Empire Strikes back. The reason is that makes some problems like why cant Luke sense them and if they herd their was a new Jedi they try to find him. We are told that by return of the Jedi that Luke is the last Jedi. So no the only character I could see outside of rebels is Thrawn.

One interesting idea would be the loss of the force, like it happened with Meetra Surik (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Meetra_Surik) in the EU.

Thrawn could actually be a great Endor Aftermath Character for the new cannon. Thrawn can lead the IR in the force awakens time line and negotiate a deal to aid the resistance.
