georgia attacked russian peacekeepers and south ossetian militians. of course russia intervenes. and I'm not so sure that those numbers are accurate. and if you want to speak about overkill look at the Iraq war.

to be honest, i fail to see what right russia had to attack. south ossettia is NOT russian territory. at the most, it is a breakaway state of Georgia. At the least, it is a part of Georgia.
Less than 1/3 of the citizens in South Ossetia are ethnic Georgian, and most of the region's population hold Russian citizenship.  Also, as part of the '92 settlement Russia supplies some of the peacekeepers in the region, surely that gives them the right to enter the territory?

i fail to see their right in intervening there, although you may have a point in south ossettia.

to be honest, i fail to see what right russia had to attack. south ossettia is NOT russian territory. at the most, it is a breakaway state of Georgia. At the least, it is a part of Georgia.
Here's a comparison of their armies.
GEORGIA
Total personnel: 26,900
Main battle tanks (T-72): 82
Armoured personnel carriers: 139
Combat aircraft (Su-25): Seven
Heavy artillery pieces (including Grad rocket launchers): 95
RUSSIA
Total personnel: 641,000
Main battle tanks (various): 6,717
Armoured personnel carriers: 6,388
Combat aircraft (various): 1,206
Heavy artillery pieces (various): 7,550
Source: Jane's Sentinel Country Risk Assessments

it's overkill.
however, Georgia should try to solve it diplomatically, perhaps devolving power.

It never said Russia sent ALL of their troops. Over half of the South Ossetians hold Russian citizenship. Back in 1992ish S.O. had a referendum to separate from Georgia and it passed with a clear majority, but nothing was done about it and Georgia's used military force to make them stay. Russia only attacked Georgia after Georgia attacked South Ossetia.

Russia led the peacekeeping mission there too.

tibet wanted to be it's own country. and china went in, with military, and said no, despite the fact that china is already huge and really doesnt need anymore land. Now Russia is doing the same thing to georgia because they dare not want to follow russia still slightly communist ideals. it seem's marxism dies hard.

Tibet was sitting there all peaceful with their monks, Chinas attack was unprovoked.  Georgia attacked a country and Russia went in to defend it, it has little to do with Tibet and China.

Russia is refusing to speak with the current Georgian government, despite the French and Georgian attempts at peace negotiations. Russia moving in to Georgia isn't the true problem. What will Russia do NOW is. If they continue their stance, that means they want a pro-Russian (and, considering the fact that Putin use to be the head of KGB, communist) puppet government to take over, or the entire region part of Russia. Either way, they would have gained control of the last natural gas pipeline that side of the black sea. Do you really think that fact would have passed Putin's mind?
