Small CIS ships.
« on: August 16, 2017, 04:53:47 PM »
I haven't managed to find many corvette/ frigate sized CIS/ Trade Federation ships, but I did come across these.

So if you want give the CIS any anti-fighter ships or escort carriers, or something to counter the carrack, I guess these are your best bets. What does everyone think?

I think there are several better options for small CIS ships than the Munifex. These are all ships (known to be used by the Confederacy) that could easily fit the bill (in order of most likely to be included to least likely to be included):

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Diamond-class_cruiser (This appears in several places in the EU and is similar in size to ships like the Carrack)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Trident-class_assault_ship/Legends (May be a bit small, but could still act like a fast anti-fighter ship)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Umbaran_support_ship/Legends (Based on its appearance in TCW I'd say it's easily within the light frigate size-range)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Separatist_cruiser (Not much is known about this thing but based on how large it is in RC I'd say it could fit as a corvette sized CIS ship)

Diamond: Small, lightly armed and a transport- fit's the bill perfectly for a light carrier.

Trident: not sure given that it seems to be primarily aquatic. Wouldn't the arms be difficult to animate? (if locked in place, what position?)

Umbaran support ship- wouldn't that be restricted to Umbara? As far as I can tell its in the same rare category as the munifex.

Separatist cruiser- No canon armament but that might not be a problem.

The diamond and separatist cruiser look like the best bets as far as I can see.

I'd say the Diamond is fairly well armed for a transport. 2 forward facing laser cannon batteries and 13 laser cannon emplacements. Could probably do some anti-fighter stuff if it had to. I don't think it has a launch bay for fighters though.

Warb_Null had no problem making the "arms" animate on his. I have no reason to believe it would be difficult for the team. We have seen them operate in space though we have not seen them in any space combat situations.

Maybe, but I would have also thought the Munificent would be restricted to Muunilinst for the PA in ICW, but it's not.

As for the Separatist Cruiser, we can see what appears to be a laser cannon or turbolaser cannon at the bow of the ship. The main thing working against this (that I can think of) is next to nothing is known about it.

I did have a 'do the CIS even need small ships?' phase, but then there would be no small expendable light carrier to allow a fighter in ground combat.

That's why I saw the Diamond and compared it to the Quasar Fire, but being a transport doesn't guarantee it can be a carrier. You're right. It could be any of them that could fill that role I guess.

Here's something. There's no actual design, but the Geonosians have a distinct style that I think can be replicated quite easily for this.
