Imperial Civil War Tech Support / Slow Game Controls
« on: September 01, 2017, 01:00:45 PM »
Yesterday, I experienced a slowdown of the fps in-game (on the Galactic and tactical maps), then the Save and Quit functions slowed down significantly (~1 minute for each to open and activate).  Changed from disk version of SWFoC to Steam, plus performed numerous scans (Norton, CCleaner, Scandisk, Malwarebytes, MS Defender, etc) - no problems.  Using the Steam version, an ICW 2.1 save started Ok and rapidly slowed down until saving a game and quitting that campaign took minutes.

Tried again today - same thing only this time: Quit game stopped working, Cntrl-Alt-Delete was extremely slow to open, CPU usage and memory usage shot up, and SWFoC stopped responding.

Update 9-15-17:  after two+ weeks of searching/testing for a software/OS/virus/malware/HD/etc problem, I took my PC/mini into the local computer geeks and eventually learned that a liquid cooling hose had a kink in it that over time caused the pump performance to deteriorate resulting in very high cpu core temperatures.  Installed air cooling and fixed the problem.

Imperial Civil War Tech Support / Another Old Topic - Space Map Size
« on: July 29, 2017, 11:18:55 AM »
Searched, but could not find an obvious answer.  To help Zsinj"s SSD get out of the corner and facing the wrong direction - is it possible to just increase the size of the space map?  I suspect it is hard-coded in the vanilla, but, if possible, I will do the work to try to accomplish this.

Thanks

Thanks as always.

While I am "on a roll" - have two more questions:
(1) when I attacked Mon Calamari with overwhelming space assets, the New Republic space units immediately retreated, but had no direct star lanes.  I vaguely remember this from the past, did they slowing traveled to the nearest New Republic system?
(2) according to the manual this is a single era campaign, if I eliminate Mon Mothma, what happens to the remaining New Republic planets and units?

 :) - post title a'bit off - 2 questions became 7

Thanks for the information.

After 4 years (time goes fast when you are having fun), I wanted to play/re-familarize myself with ICW.  While playing (ICW/GC/6ABY The Stars Align/Penstar/Captain/Week 43), I noted 5 issues/bugs/problems/requests, some of which may or may not be fixable:
(1) In several space battles with the New Republic, the new intruder (forgot name) occasionally jumps in and fights everyone.  Several times, when the New Republic is on the offensive and they retreat,  the battle ends, eventhough the  new intruder has not been defeated.  I vaguely remember this being discussed in the past, but could not be fixed.
(2) After defeating the Imperial Remanant on Bilbringi (there were 4 Golans in space), I built 3 Golans, but on the planet view there are only 2 boxes with Golans, and the small text on the top left only shows two types.  In addition, the boxes show 2 Golan IIs, but the text states Golan II and Golan III.  Also, on the space build UI, the Golans are still shown as buildable.  Can I build more than 2?
(3) Starting week 41, for space battles, my frame rate has noticeable dropped.  Nothing has changed, but the week.  Is this worth pursuing?
(4) On several of the base layout maps, e.g. Anx Minor, the location of units, buildings and placement positions are not shown.  If this can be fixed, I can include a detailed list.  I vaguely remember this being addressed years ago.
(5) To help a relatively old guy, is there some way I can lighten the blue color for the Penstar Alignment to make it easier to read?

Thanks

I plan to reinstall/play SW EAW/FoC and ICW.  After reading threads on this site, parts of the manual, and watching Corey's Youtube stuff.  I have two questions:
(1)  I have the retail disks of EAW and FoC. The Manual had a link to LucasArts which then sent me to Disney, and after "looking around" I found the two patches - FoC to 1.01 and more than 2Gb of RAM.  Also, I noted the extra steps to launch the ICW if you have the Steam version.  Because I play Steam games offline, is there any advantage to buying/downloading the EAW and FoC from Steam?
(2) To just play ICW, I will need ICW2.1 and the stability patch from MODdb; and to assist in 2.2, I will need the separate 2.2 Demo and the 2.2 Loading Time Fix patch, also from MODdb.  Have I missed anything?
Thanks

Thanks - I installed 1.3.1 over my current game and everything is working fine.

Does not include the base 1.3. Install directly on top of a clean install of 1.3.  (Find your Imperial_Civil_War folder and use that as the installation directory). This installer works for both Steam and Disk installations.

[Download - ModDB]

I am currently in Week 71 of GC AoW using 1.3.  Recognizing that assumptions usually cause problems - I assume a "clean install of 1.3" means deleting the existing 1.3, reinstalling 1.3, then patching with 1.3.1 and then starting a new GC AoW game.  Because, otherwise I run the risk of corrupting either my saved games or the existing 1.3.  Correct?

Thank you.

Recognizing that many of your previous messages involved the opposition's AI, in general, are you able to modify the AI's strategic or tactical behavior?  If as general rule, you are restricted to small tweaks, then I will not make those types of suggestions.

Another suggestion: AoW, IR, medium difficulty, Week 38 - on Qat Chrystac, instead of the smaller NR fleet pulling back to defend the two Golans (which were well placed in the asteroid bottleneck - good improvement) they attacked my larger/more powerful IR fleet.  Again, recognizing your coding limitation, is it possible to make the defender less aggressive and more defensive.

Great mod, several suggestions, including one from my bug list in Tech Support.  Please consider:
1. As the IR in AoW, I appreciate being able to build a hypervelocity gun on any planet with sufficient slots, particularly a junction planet.  After destroying six NR M80 Wingless before they arrived in striking distance of my Golans, I suspect the hypervelocity gun may be overpowered.  Depending on canon, increasing the reload time by 15 to 25% may be appropriate.
2. The EotH and NR have not built any significant money generating buildings.   If possible, this should be changed for the behind the lines planets.
3. If possible in a space battle, the positioning of the defending ships should be the choice of the defending player.
4. Over two turns, the NR launched four small waves against my heavily defended base on Porus Vida.  If possible, the AI should first assemble a large fleet.
5. The early warning system should be included unless the fleet includes an anti-detection ship.
6. The IR, NR and EotH should each have the raid capability.  The problem with the vanilla version was the Rebels only raided along the border planets and not deep within the Imperial system.  Also, if possible, I suggest that the defender is not aware of the raid until the raiders strike.
7.  The bombing run in ground combat is overpowered and should be reduced.  You should not be able to destroy everything in the bombing path including infantry, buildings, turbo towers and vehicles.
8. In the majority of battles where the NR is defending a planet, the NR AI does not build any AA.  With #7, the success of bombing is virtually guaranteed.
9. On Ketaris against a well defended EotH, I have found the sensor array and can use bombardment and aerial bombing to defeat the EotH with virtually no losses.  To counter this, I suggest that the defender has no fog of war regarding the location of buildings and build pads, and the attacker - unless the attacker has a cloaking vehicle.  The attacker should have a fog of war.  To counter the defender, I suggest a cloaking vehicle that masks the attackers units.

Thanks for changing the positioning of the Golans to something reasonable.
