Let's solve this for once and for all. Thrawn.
-
Didnt they face off? I beleive Thrawn won.
-
They never fought against each other. only in Bilbringi and Thrawn wasn't defeated by ackbar in there.
-
Did he win?
-
Thrawn died by the hands of his Nohgri bodyguard, Rukh(or however you spell it).
Id call that a nobody wins.
-
did Ackbar die?
-
Eventually, Thrawn did.
-
but let's assume that Thrawn and Ackbar fight and their fleets are equal in number and power and there is no one to assassinate Thrawn. how would win? Thrawn
-
Thrawn would win. He had some of Ackbar's art.
-
yes he did.
-
Id say Thrawn would win, but not by a whole bunch just cause Ackbar probably wouldnt be very easily tricked
-
you are propably right. Ackbar wouldn't be defeated without casualties even by Thrawn. and it would take time. but in the end Thrawn would be victorious.
-
Yeah, Ackbar isnt one to leave open weaknesses or underestimate anything
-
well they did underestimate Thrawn when they planned the bilbingi operation. they thought Thrawn would blindly follow their false troop consentrations.
-
Im sure Ackbar didnt think he would do it "blindly" but he didnt underestimate, he simply was beaten strategically there
-
well they believed they had fooled him. but once again Thrawn shoved the rebels why he is the best military strategist in the galaxy.
-
Yep, by getting stabbed by his own bodyguard
-
yep. but he suspected there was something wierd going on with the noghri. he thought he could solve it after bilbringi.
-
Thrawns second and fatal mistake, he underestimated the problem
-
Im going to go against the grain and say Ackbar, although i actually think they are almost equal in terms of tactical savvy. Thrawn may have a slight edge when it comes to anticipation of the enemy (based on species/art), but otherwise they are both very accomplished strategists and have won against long odds on many occasions.
-
But Thrawn was only defeated twice i think
-
and ackbar lost how many times none that i know of I vote ackbar
-
Sure, Ackbar was defeated a couple times, i dont remember the battles specifically though
And Thrawns defeats was that one planet he didnt quite anticipate, which to Thrawn was a loss but was technically a win since he destroyed their planet and the other when Rukh killed him, which isnt really military defeat
-
Don't Post! ITS A TRAP!
I vote Thrawn, Hands down...
-
I say Ackbar.
-
but something in common with both Thrawn and Ackbar is that neither of them was too proud to retreat when needed.
-
Quite true
-
but still there was nobody who could have defeated Thrawn.
-
but still there was nobody who could have defeated Thrawn.
I dunno, Rukh did quite a good job :P Unless you mean strategically...
-
Remember, Thrawn had some art that Ackbar made.
-
but still there was nobody who could have defeated Thrawn.
I dunno, Rukh did quite a good job :P Unless you mean strategically...
If life were an RTS, "Thrawn are victorious."
I disagree. If the rest of the Grand Admirals had worked together to bring him down, down he would have gone.
-
No, remember that Thrawn was the one working in the unknown regions, the other GAs wouldnt have been able to touch him there
-
I guess the real question is, What if Thrawn and Ackbar had been working together? Unbeatable?
-
hell yea they would have been inbeatable.
-
i think thrawn could beat ackbar but i xertainlyy dont think they would be unbeatable
-
Individually, they are both excellent strategists. But together i think that they would not be unbeatable, since they both have different philosophies and battle tactics, which could easily conflict and cause confusion for their opponent to exploit.
-
I dont think their strategies are all that different enough to hurt them, besides Thrawn would be able to plan so far ahead they'd be able to work out differences
-
Why does everyone seem to fall back on the "Thrawn would foresee X and would have plans to deal with it", to me its like saying he is infallible, when clearly he isnt (otherwise he would have managed to avoid the great inconvenience of being killed by Rukh).
-
Everyone says that because he could
Its not like he could see the future, he just understood his enemy so well he could anticipate them with great accuracy
Rukh killing him doesnt really count because it wasnt an enemy strategist that defeated him or a fleet that beat him, it was a primitive race getting angry
-
I wouldnt define the Noghri as primitive. "It doesnt count because it wasnt an enemy strategist" - so only enemy fleets and strategists are important? What about the individuals who might make a small difference and completely change the circumstances (like Han defending Luke at Yavin), or the "primitive" species that get involved, (like the Ewoks at Endor) ?
-
I don't count Rukh to thrawns mistake list because he didn't now that Rukh was an enemy. You can't protec yourself from something if you don't know it's desire to kill you. Thrawn's death is similar to many Roman Emperor's who were killed by their own bodyguard unit, Praetorian Guard.
-
It depends on the ships and fleet.
-
obviously. if you have one ship against hundred there is no point arguing who would win. but let's focus on a even match in numbers of troops and ships shall we.
-
it depends on the ships
-
isd and mc80 b s
-
Hehehe, an even number and the lowliest Imperial could take them out with ISDs! In such climatic type battle there is no strategy! Its just see which ships survive the punishment. In this battle Isds win! But if you add in equal support then strategy comes in to play. All were marveled by Thrawn's sheer genius in the Trilogy. Ackbar was losing. He could not have won in any period in either's life. He ate every opponent for breakfast! In his twenties (while all other Chiss were at beer parties) he slaughtered that Federation fleet with only six or something like that) small battle cruisers without breaking a sweat. As he subsequently did to that Vaagari fleet with only a few crates of idiot battle droids! Hes a genius! Ackbar has only told people the obvious in any Star Wars media: Shoot! In one book he recognized a manuever and that is the only the thing I can think of. He lost to a starfighter pilot (Wedge)! (Jedi Academy trilogy)
-
Thrawn won a trade federation fleet that consisted:
2 Lucrehulk-class battleships
Darkvenge
Keeper
6 armed Hardcell-class transports
7 Trade Federation escort cruisers
3,000 Vulture droids
and Thrawn had three small cruisers and nine fighters.
-
You make an excellent point Meyer, could Ackbar have done that? I think not.
-
I think he could have caused losses to the enemy but he wouldn't have been able to defeat them. and Ackbar's casualties would have been high.
-
But Thrawn lost nothing. The only way Thrawn could be beat is by massive (it would have to really be massive in order to beat Thrawn) number disadvantage.
-
yep. or just one noghri bodyguard.
-
Damn sneaky Nogri
-
Of course the fleet against Thrawn had no commander with any real experience
-
good point. but still numbers are also a great advantage in battle.
-
True, but if those numbers are all retarded, then it makes no difference
-
yep. and we have to remember that Thrawn simply shut down most of those starfighters. but I still think it was an remarkable feat.
-
whos saying it wasnt?
-
no one. and I hopefully didn't claim something like that.
-
It sounded like you were saying i was saying it wasn't remarkable, but it doesn't matter, after all theres' nothing Thrawn did that wasn't remarkable
Aside from dying, unless you consider being killed by your own bodyguard remarkable which it kinda is
-
Roman emperor's did that all the time. most of them were killed by their own bodyguards and soldiers.
-
But not their alien super soldier completely loyal by birth bodyguards
-
no but bodyguard is a bodyguard.
-
i guess
-
don't guess, know!
-
fine, i know
