So Isaard just attacked a planet of mine that only had two Golan Is and six troop transport ships. Screwed, right? Wrong! I nailed that SSD with my ground-to-space cannons while she spun in circles looking for my transport ships.
What awesome AI moments of glory do you have to tell?
side note: Her fighters stayed in the center of the map. Should have checked the asteroid fields :)
-
Technically, that's pathfinding, not the AI telling the unit to do it. The engine just doesn't know how to handle large ships.

Aw, but "Pathfinding Moments of Glory" just doesn't have that ring.

When the Ai waited to jump an SSD in to back up their first one until the battle was completely over and then it jumped to far in and missed my fleet completely so all i had to do was shoot it in the rear until it died...not a single laser blast hit one of my ships...I was like well okay if you insist I shall kill you.
-
there was the one time i had to kill palps and he is mean but i managed as EotH no less to have only one ship in the battle i did some scouting and brought in a small ship. sure as hell he fired that laser and killed it but not before i jumped in like 4 Phalanxes and 4 Syndics. i let em at him and he died. as well as the rest of the era 3 heroes >_>
i just focus fired on his arse and ill tell you its a pain in the arse to select all them fighters and bombers >_>

Ctrl+A saves my ass a lot of pain.

That, right there, is what I'm talking about :D
I built my first ever NR super ship and was psyched about killing some remnant. I had saved forever to build it. No sooner did I build it then a remnant SSD shows up and superlasers my poor arse. Worst waste of 40,000 credits ever! Haven't built another one since.

I could say that the most WTF?? thing for me it was when the new republic in final imperial push attacked me with 3 Viscount and nothing more
-
Well, I'd say there's probably not many fleets that could stand up to 3 Viscounts, so I would probably send them by themselves against most fleets also.
-
Yes you are right but I have assembled my fleet ( two SSD and at least 5 star destroyer with lancer frigates and some sutff) Haven't attacked them yet

That's scary. Sounds like a long battle. Then again, the AI really knows how to waste super units.
-
Ye well I finally attacked the 3 viscount fleet but they had a little company this time in the end I loose my entire fleet including Tierce and Daala and they only managed to save one Viscount.
I know it sounds like I'm a horrible player but the thing is that in the end of the battle they brought the two viscounts right in front of my star destroyers (wich didn't last long) and while my SSD was turning arround they simply destroyer what was left of his shields, when I called the second SSD well it was kind of a lost battle just did it for fun...

I built up a large fleet with 2 Praetors, and several ISD's and Grant to invade Kauron, and I lost most of the entire force to the NR's 30+ Quasar fleet (and nothing else), poor Grant had his engines blown up as I tried to escape :'(
An AI moment of stupidity has got to be when they sent 3 Executors against my Kaine and a few ISD-1's and lost all 3.

Yep, as with most AI, the real strength is in out earning you and maybe getting lucky in a few battles. Watching it move all those units from planet to planet makes my head spin. Then they lose 3 SSDs in a fight against Kaine.

Unless it is the NR AI, in which they just spam Quasars and fighters and destroy anything.
-
Yes, they do love to spam their Quasars!!

Sorry to revive this thread, but I just had an AI moment of glory as the PA in Essence of War. I had just successfully taken the space above Nirauan, and managed to kill Stent in the process. Then they send a fleet composing of Thrawn, Niriz, and various other heavy/light frigates against my fleet (Kaine, Munificents, and Acclamators, which I easily defeat. Next, they send there big fleet with Parck, Ar'alani, 2 Syndics, five Chafs, 12 Karieks, 15 Warlords, some other support ships, and 4 Massias Interdictors. The battle was long and fierce, with me losing all my support ships but destroying all their heroes, capital ships and heavy frigates. Eventually Kaine's shields fell, and the Warlords/Karieks managed to stay in his blind spot. I was 2 seconds into ordering a retreat when suddenly all 4 Interdictors jump in, and proceeded to do absolutely nothing to prevent my escape.

Jumped into a system with Kaine against Isard and another SSD and her heroes backed up by two Golan IIIs. The IR had a lot of shuttles in the back and I was sure going to get trashed by their forces when lo and behold the IR jumps to lightspeed giving me control of the system. WTF?

That is the first time I've ever seen the AI ignore interdictors. The best part is bringing them into the battle just for looks. AI just wanted you to crap yourself for a second.
-
The AI never was good at using special abilities.
-
Maybe with you guys but the AI always used the interdictors agains my fleet

Here's one that occurred sometime last month:
The Imperial Remnant under Isard attacked my fleet of 2 dreadnaughts, 3 nebulons, 2 quasars, 1 x-wing squadron and 2 Golan IIs with Isard's SSD and two ISDs.
For some reason I never seem to luck out against a SSD, they are always pointed at my fleet and rip them apart, that's what was happening here. I lost a dreadnaught and a neb-b quickly and the other dreadnaught just lost its shields and was basically a goner. Then (it was like magic!) a large Pentastar raid fleet (somewhere around 1 praetor, 3 venators, 6 other ships) jumped in directly behind the SSD and beat the crap out of it while completely ignoring me. The SSD eventually blew up but not before I lost everything but my x-wing squad and my golans. The pentastar fleet was eventually taken out by the Golans (they didn't have anything larger then a venator because their praetor was taken out by the SSD.)
Oh, and I had no ion cannon.

I just lost Jerec to a Quasar in an auto-resolve...
What the hell happened? Did an X-Wing crash into the bridge and cause the Vengeance to accidently fly into a black hole?

It's even wrose, Vengeance has no command bridge XD

And NR is totally OP, they could probably send a CR90 against your SSD and still come out on top -_^

Well, it worked for them before... (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=be5_g9S0vMc#t=19s)

My biggest complaint about Jerec is that he REFUSES to stay in a space fleet. I have him in a space fleet, attack the planet, and he moves himself into the ground fleet at the end of the battle, even though I didn't drop him onto the planets surface. So I go forward with the fleet, and discover that my strongest unit is now several Venators...ouchy.

So much this. But I've got to ask ,where does he park his ship when he's on the ground?
-
Hmmm... Ok I'll say it. Jerec's kind of a giant ass. It's probably in there somewhere. I never respected him as a villain.

Hah I do that with praetors best range in the game great shields amazing firepower.

Praetors have about the same pop as SSDs so I don't use them. Especially since their maneuvering is horrific. ISDs and an SSD gets the job done for me.
-
I'll use the occassional Praetor, mostly in defensive fleets. I'm a big fan of having lots of Venators and ISD-II's. Praetors IMO had far too much population for their abilities when compared to an Executor/Sovereign. Nearly the same population but less than 1/4 of the hardpoints, destructible engines, etc. Just not worth the population cost. Hopefully that's changed in 2.1, either making their engines indistructible, or dropping their population.

That's exactly it. I'm just too lazy to type now.

The biggest pain in the ass is when you jump into a system with the intent of doing a hit-and-fade with a Super Star Destroyer only to find 10+ interdictors sat amongst their fleet

Try 40+.

I guess the AI was bored? That almost sounds as bad as the hundreds of fleet commanders I had to systematically kill.

It was the little quasar that could!
-
Yeah, I've noticed Jerec has basically no autoresolve strength.

he makes up for it with a winning personality

Ok, so. In "From the Ground up". I made the bad decision of not trying to take over any planets until i had built a sizable fleet (i was playing as NR) when suddenly, i was surrounded by the IR. So, i quickly took over New Cov, followed by Nal Hutta. At Nal Hutta...
I had one Assault Frigate, one Corona, and a boat load of E-Wings and X-Wings, fighting about ten Carracks, seven Lancers, a Venator, a few Victorys, and some MTCs (or whatever their called) with a Golan I defending my Ship Yard. Of course, i was being creamed, when suddenly. A raid fleet showed up behind them enemy consisting of one ISD, a Muunificent, and a bunch whatever the Interdictor like ships are called that don't have the Gravity Field Generators, as soon as they appeared, i had my fleet exit the fray and watch. Of course, the IR were being destroyed by the ISD, and after they had pretty much demolished each other, i sent my fleet back to finish them off. I ended up destroying the raid fleet, but lost by Assault Frigate and Corona in the process... But my E-Wings DESTROYED everything BUT the Lancers... So, i lost, but the IR had a hollow victory.
-
Yes, MTC is correct (Modular Taskforce Cruiser). And the heavy cruiser could be the Vindicator Heavy Cruiser or the Enforcer picket cruiser (both look the same, but have different armaments and the Enforcer carries no fighter complement) since it appears you were raided by the PA.
