What book is the best in your opinion?
Mine: Darth Bane: Path of Destruction
-
Mine is The Unifying Force because it is the ultimate working togetherof the Galactic Republic.
-
Thats the Galactic Alliance, not the Galactic Republic.
-
oops, you're right, my mistake
-
Republic Commando:Hard Contact for me
-
Well, for me it's just about any book that has THRAWN in it. So, therefore, Heir to the empire, dark force rising, last command, and outbound flight all rock!!!!!
-
My favorite would have to be Dark Lord: The Rise Of Darth Vader primarily because my favorite faction is the Republic and it delves into a part of Vader we don't really see in the movies. And because of the fact it shows the very early Empire.
-
my favourites are the Han Solo trilogy and the Thrawn trilogy...
-
My favourites are: Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, Dark Lord: The Rise Of Darth Vader, The Thrawn Trilogy and Outbound Flight.
-
Thrawn Trilogy and Republic Commandos series
-
Althought I have to say there are many more books that are good
-
im hoping that Outbound flight will be as good as ive been led to believe, and i hope that Zahn's next book - Allegiance - will also be good (although im going to wait for it in paperback)...
-
Trust me Outbound Flight is very good book, one of the best that I have ever read.
-
better than the Thrawn trilogy ?
-
That's a hard question to answer to. I guess I prefer Thrawn Trilogy, but as I said Outbound Flight is one of the best books I have read. But loses to Thrawn Trilogy.
-
having just finished Outbound Flight i have to agree with you - there are some questions that i feel need to be explored though
-
I would like to read more about Thrawn's youth.
-
i would like Zahn to write about what Thrawn was doing between Outbound Flight and the Thrawn trilogy - so both with the Chiss Ascendancy, the Empire and the EoTH
the main question that came from OF was how Thrawn coped with being part of the Empire - especially once the slavery and anti-human bias developed - he seemed strongly against slavery before...
-
Maybe he realized it was nessesary for galactic peace and unity. More Thrawn, NOW!!!!!!!!
-
but surely Palpatine respected him, and he was in a high enough position to do something about it ?
-
At least Palpatine didn't kill Thrawn when he said Palpatines plan was stupid.
-
Yea, because Thrawn said a few times that he would not waste forces on a fight he couldn't win. The first time Palpatine gave the forces to another commander and lost the whole fleet. After that Palpatine listened closer to what Thrawn said.
-
didnt Palpatine also strip Thrawn's rank when he refused to waste troops - then reinstate him after his predictions were realised
-
I believe that was how it was phrased.
-
Thrawn would have a better Emperor than Palpatine
-
I have to agree, except that Thrawn wouldn't have wanted to be the emperor because all he wanted was peace in the galaxy.
-
and if the only way to ensure that peace was maintained was to be emperor, he would take that course
-
Yes, but I believe Thrawn could have been emperor without all that cruelty of Palpatine.
-
He was technically the emperor of the Empire of the Hand. Thrawn and Palpatine both realised the need for galactic unity, that much is shown in Outbound Flight. He may not have been especially fond of Palpatine or care that much when he died, but Palpatine did set up an excellent base for Galactic unity for when the Vong invaded.
-
Stupid rebels. they ruined all when they killed palpatine and Thrawn. They would've destroyed the Vong in notime.
-
i think that the Rebels killed Palpatine was good, but the NR didnt actually kill Thrawn, it was the Noghri Rukh
-
Well stupid Rukh then.
-
i never actually read all of heir to the empire when i was 9 but what i did read was good
-
Anything Tim Zahn wrote, as well as the Han Solo books. Good stuff
-
Tim Zahn, Is one of the greatest Star Wars authors ever period. I've had the pleasure to read a couple of his books. The thing about books is they have to be fascinating and captivating. For me the Empire/Rebellion era is far to explored and done one to many times. I love to read about The Clone Wars...Nothing is greater than to read how a squad of four Republic Commandos take down a former Death Watch Warrior "Ghez Hokan", and his some odd 100 battle droids. and live to tell about. To me that is the greatest pleasure of all.
-
Thrawn books from Zahn are the best.
-
Thrawn books from Zahn are the best.
I humbly agree, After all wasn't it Timothy Zahn who made up the idea of Thrawn?
-
Yes. Thrawn was first introducted in the Heir of the Empire by Timothy Zahn.
-
I have still yet to read that book. Unfortunately I had it for years, when I was younger I wasn't interested in Star Wars it was more Digimon/Pokemon. Now I can't find the book anywhere. The library around here sucks when it comes to paper-back Star Wars novels.
-
bad luck
-
yeah bad luck
-
hope you find it, it is generally accepted as among the best Star Wars novels - if worst comes to worst im sure you will be able to buy a copy somewhere
im looking forward to Zahn's newest Star Wars novel, Allegiance - but im waiting for it to come out in paperback before i buy it
-
I'll borrow it from library, if they get it.
-
im buying the 3 online ;)
-
I'll find my copy eventually, It couldn't have gone that far.
-
May the Force be with you!
-
Haha, Thank you very much. I will need it to going through all the stuff in closets.
-
You'll find somewhere.
-
Hm. Apparantly I didn't answer the question. Well, here are my three favourites in order.
1. Outbound Flight
2. The Last Command
3. Vision of the Future.
-
mine are not in any special order. Thrawn books are the best.
-
Outbound Flight was such a good book.
-
one of the greatest.
-
The sequel to OutBound Flight "Survivors Quest" Was also good. I was glad I read them in order.
-
Not technically a sequel, more of a spinoff...
-
Seriously, They had everyone from Outbound Flight in there. Not to mention they shared every one's fate as well. It should have been a sequel in retrospect.
-
The only characters that were in both were Formbi and a few refugees..... Unless you count the corpses of Lorana and Thrass....
-
Wasn't Lorana's Brother in there as well?, I also thought there was mention of Car'das if I remember right.
-
I haven'tread Survivor's Quest but I presume it is good.
-
It was a good book, The plot twist was unexpected by my standards. And I even read Outbound flight. :'(
-
Yeah, the plot twist got me too. My favorites are Heir to the Empire, Allegiance, and Outbound Flight.
-
I haven't read allegiance yet but I'm going to ASAP.
-
*waits for it to come out in paperback* those huge hardbacks take up far too much room on my bookcases, so i try to avoid getting them
-
I loan my books from library. much cheaper.
-
i like owning them (i have about 70 now methinks) - more secure :P
and my local libraries dont stock Star Wars :(
-
*waits for it to come out in paperback* those huge hardbacks take up far too much room on my bookcases, so i try to avoid getting them
Haha, Our library has only hard covers of the Star Wars' books...It's rare to find a paper back. :(
-
my near libraries only has paperbacks
-
Hard Covers have more info when to comes to the authors bio..etc..
-
The paperback of Legacy of the Force: Betrayal has two Karen Traviss short stories in it. I wish I had waited for the paperback of that, so I could have those short stories.
-
thats another reason for waiting for the paperback, it was like that with Outbound flight, the paperback (or at least version i got) had Mist Encounter in the back, while the hardback version didnt
-
and little about Allegiance.
-
Mine are Zahn's books about Thrawn (except outbound Flight)
-
i like the ones featuring admiral daala
-
the the - erm - Jedi Academy Trilogy ?
-
Congrats
-
thanks in 17 posts youll be a stormtrooper
back to topic has anyone read darksaber its an awesome read
-
I'l have to look that up....
-
I have read Darksaber. I think the best parts of it were those featuring Daala and Pellaeon.
-
i wasnt all that keen on Darksaber tbh, i mean Hutts building a superweapon...
-
yeah kinda weird
-
*LotF Betrayal and Exile arrived today* so thats my weekend reading sorted...
-
I refuse to read those books because they made Jacen kill Mara which was Zahn's character not his so it was not right to kill her and she was a good character too
-
so do you not read the NJO because they killed Chewbacca ?
or the Thrawn trilogy because it introduced and killed off Grand Admiral Thrawn ?
-
Exactly i dont read njo because they killed someone elses character but i do like the Thrawn trio because he killed his own character
-
I have recently read the NJO series. it has been good this far. Tsavong Lah is the best. I too hate the fact that Mara was killed, especially because it was someone else than Zahn. If Zahn had killed her, then fine but now: not great.
-
i think the hutts building a superweapon was wierd but very cool
-
How could mutant slugs get there hands on a superlaser? But even so they screwed it up. That is why Jabba and friends suck.
-
Durga the Hutt contacted Bevel Lemlesk, a cheif designer of the Death Star and tried to make a scaled down version of the death star, but the superlaser didn't work.
-
ah, no wonder it was a bust. no one likes the hutts. I thought he discovered it in the Maw or somewhere.
-
no they built they're own laser. which didn't work.
-
Something to do with the shoddiness of the components that Bevel was forced to use in construction, and the easily distracted workforce.
-
Ah, Hutt standards. They are extremely sloppy!
-
Hutts were obsessive about getting the best bargain for their money, but Durga had accepted the low bid far more frequently than quality control should have allowed; and the Hutts, being such fearsome crime lords, had somehow missed a basic commercial axiom - you get what you pay, for any nothing more.
