Really? I found Dark Empire poorly written, incredibly poor artwork with almost none of the star wars feel to it. Negates Vaders sacrifice at Endor, and as a whole thoroughly painful to try and read.

On the other hand you have the crimson empire trilogy that is hands down amazing, the hand of thrawn duology, darksaber and  Survivor's Quest all transpires after thrawn trio and are all great reads with good artwork too

See, for me the cash grab starts after the NJO with the Dark Nest trilogy and Legacy of the Force series (not yet read Fate of the Jedi so would be unfair to comment on those stories).  LotF in particular seemed to largely be a rehash of the Clone Wars, only without the clones (secret Sith Lord orchestrates a galactic war in order to seize power).

Well, I also agree with that.  Basically, everything after Thrawn kinda seems like just a cash grab, just so happens that with the exception of plot bunnies, I enjoyed Shadow Hand stuff.

I'm in the loathe camp.  To me, while well written, just seems like it was "oh, we need another idea to keep the cash flowing in," a thinly veiled cash grab that really had no point in happening, and didn't have anything of usefulness come out of it.

Isn't that what all wars are though? Merely a time waster, delaying the next war?
Not at all, the seeds of each prior conflict are of utmost significance to the next, often being in and of themselves indirect or direct causes
 of future conflict.
I am firmly in the loathe camp. Not because of poor writing or bad characterization, or any other story quality issues; but because of the invasion's effect on the big picture. The Vong war makes the events of the original trilogy completely pointless. Who cares whether the Empire or Rebellion wins, because the Vong are gonna show up in a couple of years and screw everything. They would almost certainly devastate half the galaxy even if they eventually lost to the Empire or NR, so the epic Galactic Civil War becomes instead an exercise in futility.

Again I'd say not at all the case. It was EXTREMELY important who won the Civil War. Had the Empire won it would have been entirely militarily focused and most likely would have defeated the Vong much sooner and with less Galactic(widespread) destruction, however it would have been at the cost of freedoms, the genocide and enslavement of dozens of species and untold civilian horror. There would have been no end to it. The Rebellion as much as I utterly HATE them(With the notable exceptions of Rogues, Wraiths and Bel Iblis) the Rebels fought to free the Galaxy from tyranny and oppression. They succeeded in creating a galaxy that for a time knew peace and prosperity. Species were not discriminated against and slavery was outlawed. Most of it's problems arose from leftover sentiments of Palpatine and the Warlords who even after death could still motivate discord with memories of the past atrocities and fear of new ones in the future. The Rebels actions while on a broad scale and in hindsight caused dozens of problems in the galaxy, they also solved those problems for the most part. Their war against the Empire eventually led to an enlightened Imperial Remnant, the opening of the Hapes Cluster, diplomatic ties with the Chiss and EotH. The curtailing of the Yevetha and Ssi Ruuk as well as the Final destruction of the Order of Sith Lords. The events of the original trilogy, far from being insignificant shaped and ultimately decided the fate of an entire galaxy. The Vong storyline didn't outshine them, but helped emphasize how very important the decisions made were and how they affected the future.

I've found people fall into two categories on the Vong. They either love them or loathe them. I personally thought they were a great addition to the EU which had gotten pretty repetitive, the fulfilled a lot of the need for a true threat to everyone, their back story was solid and their 'tech' was interesting, and quite well thought out by writers. they won most of the battles also for the majority of the war they didn't fall victim to "Plot bunnies" as a lot of previous villains did. They came in, devastated the ENTIRE galaxy in a way that hadn't been seen even during the Dark Empire, Mandalorian and Sith Wars. The battles were well described and involved tactics and adapting rather than just, exhaust port or Jedi so it works.

Also the characters they introduced like Nom Anor, Onimi, Harrar, and Vergere(before her retcon as a Sith) were truly good in depth characters that felt real and believable.

I was actually rooting for them with the exception of Borleias(gotta love Wedge, Wraiths and Rogues) until they had the audacity to attack my Empire, then I enjoyed watching the Empire send them packing and watch the war's grand conclusion. Honestly that should have wrapped up the Eu. The scale of the conflict was unprecedented, the character development was well done on all parts and most plot points had been wrapped up nicely.

So yeah, I liked the vong, I think I even made a good case for them.

Thank you, was too tired to write up a detailed post like this last night. You're a lifesaver.

That's blasphemy. You cannot possibly be serious (c'mon Xizer, back me up here).

If you really want them that bad, SoGE has the Vong. I don't like the Vong in general though, they're honestly a pretty stupid arc that was really unnecessary and ruined a lot of the universe.

That said, I think the Hand makes up for the Vong immensely.

If you mean before the mod died, then the mod's not dead so technically not.

However years ago when Thrawn's Revenge was split into four mods, one of the four was going to be a Vong War mod. We then realised that doing four mods at once was stupid, and cut out the non-ICW mods.

I couldn't find anything about  it I was just wondering if the Yuuzhan vong were at one point going to be added before it died.
