Pa carrier strategy versus other factions
« on: March 16, 2015, 02:11:11 PM »
Pentastar alignment have access to in my opinion some of the best carriers in the game venator star destroyer, lucrehulks and the storm commando escort carrier. In fact once I had a full fleet of 13 venators and they launched so many fighters and bombers that the Hunt option stopped working I had something like 150 individual wings of starships and while that kind of firepower should be a death bell to the enemy in a matter of minutes it caused so much lag that the battle took 2 hours to beat and even then I ended up auto resolving the battle. Not to mention that enough tie hunters can easily take on just about any fleet that does not have spammed corvettes
Pentastar alignment greatest victory ever and  worst defeat ever,  isard lusyanka  versus 40 storm commando escort carriers = 80 squads of Tie Hunters 12 starships each= 960 individual fighters. Surprisingly the carriers won and the carrier armada was promptly snuffed out of existence by a few lancers frigates a turn later

That's why they have each squadron representing more than 1 squadron to avoid fighter lag, this is a very known, very well documented issue that's unavoidable with large numbers of fighters.

While with their numbers, the PA can field good fighter screens, the fighters themselves are nothing compared to the NR or EoTH for quality.  While slightly superior to the mainline IR (V-19's have conq's otherwise are same as Tie/ln, Hunter is slightly inferior to the Defender).

Also, hate the Lucrehulk myself.  While it carries a tolerable fighter capacity, it's useless itself, and for the price, 2 Venators deliver a superior capacity for about the same price and only slightly more fleet capacity.

Well if you read my Signature my tie hunter fleet took out lusyanka and I have yet to get my 2.1 working so I have no opinion other than what I've read in regards to the lucrehulk, but either I'm a brilliant battle commander or I'm just lucky but I have never lost a carrier or battle when I have a full fleet of storm commando escort carriers, except when the enemy has   a ton of corvettes; on a different note what is accepted short hand for the pa unique escort carriers I keep typing out storm commando escort carriers and am wondering what is the shorthand for it

I just do PA escort carrier.  Not technically it's name, but makes it so that everyone knows what you're talking about.

BTW. Yeah, I found myself in there too.
I have 6GB RAM in my PC, have dual core and so on... and i still got lag from fighter screens once or twice...

Bah, that's nothing.  I get lag with an Octo core, 16 GB ram, 2 GB graphics card and fighter spam can still cause lag...

I decided to start a PA playthrough of the Imperial Civil War GC recently, and for help on composing fleets, I checked the feedback section's Pentastar megathread. Of the people who listed units they like and don't like to use, I was surprised to see the Lucrehulk, a unit the devs want us to earn, not receiving much love. It didn't appear on the lists of units people never use, but only one person said they use it in place of Praetors. I guess my straight fight through to the planets that produce it wasn't worth all that effort (of jumping in Kaine and Jerec to wipe out space then using Dark Jedi to autoresolve ground :P)

Definitely not.  It's a pretty ship, but for the cost and pop cap that it takes, it's less than useless.  2 Venators have less pop cap, about the same actual cost, and more fighters overall, and significantly outgun the Lucrehulk in straight battle.

It's in no way a pretty ship. There's a ton of reasons we wanna kill it with napalm.
I also have a YouTube channel where I talk about mod development and gaming, do tutorials, and Let's Plays. If you like the content, consider supporting it on Patreon

Nonsense.  Those planets are some of the richest in the game - put a bunch of tax centers down on them.

And easiliy defended since there's only 1 way in, so put a small force of hailfire company, TFX-T company, 2 Century Tanks, AT-AA company, and a dark jedi (to capture build pads) and you can withstand amazing amount of attacks with no need to even bother BUILDING your space factories unless you want it for building of Lucrehulks.
