The installer isn't working for me.  When I attempt to run it, the entire computer either freezes completely, or gets slowed down to an unbearable degree.

Actually that happened to me. It seemed to lock up for about a minute, and then the installation went on as it should.

Works though if I copy it to my desktop and run it from there.  Just hates running from my USB for some reason.  Whatever...got it to install.

I have used the installer and it seems to be fine.  I'll spend tomorrow looking for all of the new stuff!
Did you see that?  Know what that cost?  $58,000.  I mean, what a waste.  It wasn't even funny.  That's $58,000 that could have gone to curing leukemia.  Or.  muscular dystrophy.  Or... what does Michael J. Fox have?  That.  Alright, let's watch some damn cartoons.

Gotta ask what is so different about uploading it through/too Desura compared too MOB?

With Desura you can either upload it as a seperate build all on its own, or use the MCF creator thing to look for version differences between the current build and the new build, which then creates and uploads a patching file. We're going with the latter because the differences between 2.0 and 2.1 aren't as big as between previous versions (which have essentially been entire reworks). The only difficulty was making sure it got the right folders for everything, but it *seems* to be checking out, just gotta wait for them to authorize it.

I'm sure some of you are saying "but Corey, doesn't that mean you could have done a patch to get from 2.0 to 2.1." Technically yes, however the more installers you pile on, the more chances for the patch maker I have to screw up. Desura is version controlled, so it always knows EXACTLY what it's going from and to and can automatically fix any issues, whereas with the standalones there's always the chance that there's one file different, and then the patch won't work and people would have to redownload everything, an install up through 2.0 -> Hotfix 1 -> Hotfix 2 -> 2.1. So we'd also need to have a standalone version of 2.1 in both ZIP and installer to accommodate new players as well, which gets confusing and clutters things up.

In survival mode is your starting units the only units you can have?

I can upgrade the various ships from the ship yard but can't actually build anything.

No. It is possible to get other ships. It's a little confusing at first. During the combat phase, you can build your ships. When you build, it's not upgrading. The only time you can place ships is in between combat phases/waves. I prefer to pause the game to give me enough time to place all the units I need. When a wave is over, the reinforcements button pops up and then you can click it and let loose all that you have. Hope this helps!

Yeah, it's pretty confusing the first tiem you do it, but if you do like Darman suggested and pause in order to post your reinforcements between waves, it's pretty easy.
