I think that all of the major characters, whoever the writer of the book or movie or thing considers major, will die trying to save a ship that is crashing to the surface of a planet, and fail with the ship hitting the planet and leaving everyone dead.

sounds like the death of Chewbacca. only that instead of a planet or a moon you have a ship.
