Does anyone think that Abrams will find his own timeline similar to how he used time travel to make an independent timeline for the Star Trek "reboot"?

Does anyone think giving both Trek and Wars to one man is too much power?

What other thoughts do you have over Abram's reported control over the new Star Wars films?

I cried. I think he's going to wreck it just like he did my beloved trek (aka, the reboot, although I do admit I like the story, it sucks insofar as completely eliminating everything we knew, and makes it so they'll redesign the Excelsior class, BASTARDS!!!).

Torn between enjoying the remake but also loving the decades of story that was dumped in the pursuit of a reboot. I can see myself feeling this way in a few years.

I don't care about the story, just about the Excelsior class. That and the Ambassador are my favorite 2 classes in Trekdom.

Unlikely. I don't think Lucas has relinquished that much control. Although it would be nice if Abrams could go and delete the prequels..

Why? They are pretty distinct from one another, and I can't see the powers-that-be letting Abrams screw things up for either franchise.

How about a Trek/Wars crossover movie?

Two years after the events of Into Darkness, the crew of the Enterprise are pulled into a wormhole and are dragged back in time to A Galaxy Far Far Away, where ships are much bigger and there are lots of people running around with glow sticks.

Would be awesome, no?

More generally, one thing is for sure with Abrams at the helm. We aren't going to find out anything until about six months before the film is released. Maybe confirmation of actors signed, but no character or plot details, no title.

Actually, it didn't eliminate everything. Just sidestepped it. The way they pulled Spock through the singularity from years after the end of the previous canon was brilliant. I'm just as fond of the new Trek as the classic, and would be more than happy to see Abrams and crew do a third film (although that will probably have to wait until after SW-VII).

I also like how they've taken a more Star Wars-like approach to an expanded universe, with the new-Trek comics and upcoming video game being overseen by the same minds as the new films. There's also the chance that after the success of Abrams' films CBS will take the plunge on a new Trek TV show set in the new universe. Again, as I said on Trekmovie.com:

You know what, i think there may be opportunity for Star Trek to return after JJ?s trilogy is finished (assuming it gets that far, maybe 2018?). Enterprise is still valid canon in this new alternate universe (based on the happened-before-Nero-incursion theory), but anything future-wise is new.

Assuming the alternate universe matches the general flow of the original, why not take the USS Enterprise C (or -B if -A never happened in this timeline) under Captain Rachel Garret? After recently watching Voyager, i feel another leading female captain would be a nice change and show off the egalitarian nature of the Federation. It also avoids the sensitivity of ?remaking? another cherished crew (e.g TNG).

Set some 60 years after TOS (prime and alternate) and 40 before TNG (prime) it would make for an interesting foray into the ?new? Federation. How things have evolved with the loss of Vulcan (maybe peace with the Romulans instead of the Klingons?), maybe the Borg arrived early?

Our focus groups here at Disney have decided that Darth Vader and the Emperor are just too dark for our intended audience. Our current goal is to have a more power-ranger bad-guy that huffs and puffs. This will allow us to easily change the medium to the animated Star Wars that has been our goal all along. We are sure the fans will appreciate the new animated original characters in 3D while we stomp out any and all fan parodies because that violates our precious copyrights. Enjoy!

Sigh...we'll just have to wait and see. Maybe Abrams is actually using the EU and setting it after FotJ, but we don't know yet because hey, we are talking about the master of secrets here.

EDIT: just found this, hope Abrams (and the idiots in charge of TCW, and all Lucasfilms, for that matter) watch this and learn what it takes to make a good movie/TV series. Watch this and tell me you would not like to see a real Star Wars movie like this:

That was great! A bit unrealistic (TIE bombers taking out several fighters) but it was good to see empire beating those abominable rebels.
