Planetary Advantages
« on: April 29, 2012, 12:41:53 PM »
Heya

I am new to the game and have only played a few hours of Conquest. But I noticed that the planet's do not show any Boni you get when you conquer them. Is that a bug or wanted?

We didn't do the bonuses the way that FoC did, so there's nothing to show. FoC didn't even really have bonuses, they were just pointlessly explained normal functions. There were also some upgrades that made no sense (why should controlling Endor give you better turbolasers?) In the mod, the shipyard levels are clearly stated, which was apparently an ability according to Petroglyph, and the other bonuses have been removed, except where they actually make sense, which is basically just Bothawui and a few places we just missed when deleting the old ones. We also have the planet capture bonuses where you get some free ships and infrastructure on some planets, which you're told about when you get.

Okay. I thought my installation was broken since it told me [missing]. But I guess that explains it :)

In the mod, the shipyard levels are clearly stated, which was apparently an ability according to Petroglyph, and the other bonuses have been removed, except where they actually make sense, which is basically just Bothawui and a few places we just missed when deleting the old ones.

Are all of them going to be removed from 2.0? I like the Bothawui one, the Wayland one is very interesting as well. With the removal of the CEC corp, are there going to be any cost reductions for CR90s and DP20s by owning Corellia (I believe currently only CR90s get a cost reduction). There are some that need to be removed, the Yavin one especially makes no sense, and whichever one gives you a cost reduction on assault frigates (since it's not Rendili).

You could also add some very interesting ones, like right now owning Coruscant gives you a heavy economic center and galactic pop, but really it's not that crucial of a target. Maybe if you made it such that it also boosts total income from your systems (being a hub of admin and trade after all), that could make it even more valuable to take and hold. Adumar could increase the punch of conc missiles and proton torps (not 100% accurate but interesting, at least).
"That's not what the Empire would have done, Commander. What the Empire would have done was build a super-colossal Yuuzhan Vong-killing battle machine. They would have called it the Nova Colossus or the Galaxy Destructor or the Nostril of Palpatine or something equally grandiose. They would have spent billions of credits, employed thousands of contractors and subcontractors, and equipped it with the latest in death-dealing technology. And you know what would have happened? It wouldn't have worked. They'd forget to bolt down a metal plate over an access hatch leading to the main reactors, or some other mistake, and a hotshot enemy pilot would drop a bomb down there and blow the whole thing up. Now that's what the Empire would have done."

The ones that don't make sense are being removed. For example, I think there's still some of the kind that block ground visibility from spacewhich don't make sense. For a lot of the reamaining ones there are usuallybetter ways to do it than the weird way Petro did. Bothawui's spy network ability would work better via actual Bothan spies instead of a limited system view around Bothawui. Since we're making the corporations buildable, Corellia's works better as a CEC buildable headquarters thing. I don't think it's possible to make Coruscant boost the economic output of every other planet, and I wouldn't want to if we could; that'd be too difficult to set properly. Make it 5% and it's virtually useless most of the time, but get enough planets and suddenly it means you're unstoppable.
