Very true. Always a breath of fresh air to come across a villain that isn't Chaotic Stupid. Funny that almost all of them came from the EU, whereas our villains from Ep VII are some of the worst I have seen. A true shame.

Indeed. Of the "crazy" ones you listed, the only one I genuinely feel bad for was Daala. I feel that she was a very interesting character ruined by bad writers. She had a lot of potential; a shame that KJA got ahold of her.

Would have loved some books or comics about Jerec in the Inquisitorious. Especially how he hunted down and turned Maw, humbled and turned Sariss from the Prophets with lightsaber duels and his interactions with Cronus as well as his hunting down of various Jedi.

Books will always be capable of giving villains more development than movies simply because they have the time to do so. Contrast the Dooku in eps 2/3 vs the one in the novelizations - he is far more fleshed out in the books, especially RotS. Sure, Hux and Snoke are pretty one-dimensional, but they were also on screen for minutes at best so the movie could spend its time in developing Kylo Ren. I think this was the right move to make, as he is the villain we're intended to develop a connection to and they gave us a complex, layered character going through important steps in his own journey rather than existing purely as antagonist to our heroes. For another contrast, look at Vader in ANH: he undergoes exactly zero character development outside of getting his rematch against Obi-wan (which changes his character not one bit and has zero impact on him for the rest of the movie, if not the series) He is a being of pure presence, with minimal substance - it is very well done and effective, but let's not pretend it counts as character depth. He doesn't get the development associated with him until TESB and RotJ.

At my old job I was always afraid of getting caught posting online, or just generally not doing what I was "supposed" to be doing. But my boss actually didn't care less. He was pretty good insofar as if we got our work done in a timely matter and correctly, he really didn't CARE what we did wheh we were at our desks. Was one of the few upsides to that job.
