Crashing, running slow

I have uninstalled and then re-installed but the 2 major issues I previously had are continuing

1) The game runs really slow, 2.1 used to run very slow for me later in the game, 2.2 runs slow, like its struggling right from the word go
2)Crashes at the drop of a hat, having to save constantly (which then leads to the save crash)

Anyone know why it runs really slow and keeps crashing?, at this rate I might have to go back to 2.1

Which version of EaW do you have, and which GCs are you playing? The galactic lag is because on larger maps there's also more active factions, there's only so much we can do about that. The AI actually does stuff now, unlike in 2.1, but if you play on smaller maps of comparable size to 2.1, you'll get similar results.

I have the disk version gold edition.

Oh, I play the bigger maps, i  tend to shy away from the smaller maps as they are not such a longer game

I have installed 2.1 again and will give 2.2 a go once it's all patched up
