The "forever" games
« on: August 12, 2016, 03:21:27 PM »
So... I started to play State of Decay again, and this got me thinking. There are games what comes back to me from time to time, and even if I don't play them for years, I always come back to them. So I am curious about what kind of games are like this for you, and what mods do you use to improve it even more?
(EaW and/or SoaSE excluded since here we are)

For me these games are:
Star Wars X-wing Alliance with Darksaber's Ultimate Craft Pack. Believe me, it makes it 1000 times better.
State of Decay Year One. Whenever I just want a game where resource management and gathering is the thing, I come back to this. Maybe this is the game what made me a hardcore economist, since it makes you appreciate every single bit of resource you find.
Age of Empires II
Portal 1 and 2
Command and Conquer 3
Star Wars Rebellion
Empire Earth
KotOR 1 and 2

So, what are yours? Oh, and if you know a must have mod for one of mine, please let me know.

For me on PC there's only really one clear perennial: Theme Hospital.  I just love that game, and it's aged surprisingly well (albeit I now run it via CorsixTH).

There's also Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefront II on PS2, but that's a lot more effort to go back to now the PS2 lives in it's box again.

I rarely play new games (although i do have a few) i constantly go back to older games.

Battlefront II, Spore, Republic Commando, Sid Meier's railroads, Men of War 2, Rome Total War, Lego Star Wars (Complete saga and The Clone wars).

Although i haven't got them working i tried to get Railroad Pioneer and Rogue Squadron to work.

X-Wing & Tie Fighter series, but most of all X-Wing Alliance
Age of Empires II
Star Wars Rebellion (I know it has lots of issues, but I've always thought  it was fun)
Star Wars EAW Forces of Corruption (obviously)
That's pretty much my entire list, although if I still had a driving wheel I'd add Sports Car GT.

Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War (all variants) with mods ofc. Couldn't name favourite one though.
Wargame European Escalation/Airland Battle/Red Dragon.

Oh, and DotA Allstars before and Dota 2 nowadays.
Though I loved old games, especialy those that were my first (Age of Empires II, Heroes of Might and Magic III), I don't ever return to play them.
