I thought you could use your old one, but to play one a nex-gen system you need a new one.

You could technically use a normal game console or controller, or a keyboard if you got it for pc, but that takes the fun out of it

Do you mean Guitar Hero?  It is a game where you have a guitar like controller and you play songs.  It's really fun.
