Bakura Defense fleet
« on: February 10, 2016, 11:32:45 PM »
This is my first post here. I am new to this mod and I already love it so far. I wanted to make a suggestion for a possible new faction.
The Bakuran Defence Fleet. After the failed Ssi-Ruuvi invasion of Bakura the Bakuran Defense fleet was formed to protect the planet. Also at one point they were allied with the Ssi-Ruuvi albeit it was a trick to get them to lower their guard for a second invasion attempt. So Ssi-Ruuvi forces could be used to bolster the Bakuran forces.
A possible unit list could go like this
Space:
Fighters: Swarm class droid, Tie fighter, Tie Bomber, and V'sett class fighter.
Capital ships: Tartan class patrol cruiser
Carrack class cruiser
Bakura class star destroyer
Namana class light cruiser
Shree Cruiser
Sh'ner carrier
Ground:
Infantry: Ssi-Ruuvi soldiers, P'w'eck troops, Bakuran militia
Vehicles: AT-ST, AT-PT, AT-MT, speeder bike, and AT-AT
They lack any really large ships but the Bakura class star destroyer packs quite a punch and as a bonus most of the ships come with laser cannon batteries making them a bit harder to fighter spam. The Ssi-Ruuvi ships also boast large hangers with tons of the lightly armed swarm class droids capable of being carried. providing excellent fighter cover for your fleet. The Ssi-Ruuvi troops on the ground will function as heavy infantry as their scales are quite tough capable of protecting against light blaster fire. The P'w'ecks could also be a part of the forces providing more mobile support as they are smaller and faster than the Ssi-Ruuvi, but their scales are not as tough. The All Terrain Mountain Transport is a possible addition as a unique unit its a well armed heavy walker with 2 heavy laser cannons and 8 twin blaster cannons mounted on the leg joins. So their can be some unique units for this faction. let me know what you guys think about this idea.

The problem is that EaW has a hardcoded faction limit, what even the team can not exceed.
And with 2.2 3 new playable warlord faction will come(Treuten Teradoc's Greater Maldrood, Zsinj's Empire and Sander Delvardus' Eriadu Authority.) and with these they will reach the limit, not to mention the team only want to include mayor factions of the era, and although the Bakuran Defense fleet really sounds interesting, it was only a very minor power in the galaxy.
Also it would require some new models in both space and ground(ground units with animations...) and this is something the team don't really have time.
Note that I am not part of the Development team, I just write from what I've experienced their answers were in the past to similar posts.

Animating dinosaur-based infantry would be a gigantic amount of work. As I understand it, that's the main reason the team doesn't have plans for a Ssi-Ruuvi based faction in ICW.

yeah. the real problem is that EaW needs .alo s and that plugin only works with old 3DS Max which kinda... a headache.
I am currently about 2 weeks in development of an AT-TE model to donate for the team and it is not easy.
Note that I only work in it in my very limited free time and that I am learning everything as I go, reworking several things in the process, but I only finished the first half of the vehicle, and I did not even had to do anything with animation which as I hear is the hardest part of the job...
We'll se how long my nerves can get me...

Well if it's any consolation a lot of our Warlords ideas seemed to be very well received.
Its possible that Bakura might get a planet bonus that you can recruit a few Ssi Ruuk ships to represent those captured and the later cooperation with the Pwowek

The other problem with the idea, beyond the work involved, is that the Bakurans were never really galactic-level players.  They participated during the Centerpoint crisis and helped a bit during the Vong war, but other than that they remained pretty isolationist, and their fleet never was all that big.
