Game crashes after killing Palpatine on Corellia
« on: August 22, 2015, 05:40:32 AM »
so I was playing as New Republic, am in era 3, I trapped Palps on Corellia and when I finally went to go take him out, everytime I finish the battle the game freezes, citing 'an exception' and to check except.txt and some other error file for additional info. It doesn't give a path for either file, and searching PC shows they don't exist.  I've tried the battle 3 times now, and it crashes as soon as the 'We are victorious!" message plays.  I just downloaded a week or so ago, so I should have all the current stuff.

You need to leave the IR a free planet until era 5, else when you kill the leader the new one can't find a planet to spawn at and the game will crash.

they do, they have about 11 planets still.  Pentastar has been eliminated, Hand owns a handful of planets, IR has 11 and i have the rest. The only thing, looking at it now, that I think could possibly be an issue is having taken Kuat.  When I took Kuat, I got the 'salvage' message and was gifted an ISDm2. I'm not sure how the A.I. deals with the 'main base'/company building, but when I was playing IR, i put it at kuat.

The shipyard buildings are planet-specific; the IR can only build KDY at Kuat, and it has no influence to my knowledge on where the leader spawns.  My follow-up question is whether you had taken over the space above their remaining planets, as that would still leave Daala nowhere to spawn.

No, I hadn't taken over the space. Infact the way the game progressed there were still a good portion of the map that I hadn't even 'explored' yet.  Basically I'd trapped Isard in the SW quadrant, I say 'trapped' though it was really just her staying there, I'd goad her over one of my planets and attack with waves of A and B-wings numerous times until her fleet was all but destroyed, then eventually took her out, Thrawn attacked me with every hero character like 2 seconds into being in era 2, so i was then in era 3. Palps stationed himself on Corellia, I took it's space, Kuat's space, then the space of the planet north of kuat so I could rescue Leia who spawned on one of my isolated planets and move her to mon calamari.  This essentially cut the IR's forces into two regions (3 untouched planets to the west side of the map, and that cluster around the three transitory mists in the middle of the map up to dathomir.  They also still had bilabringi and ord mandel. So really 3 regions.  I then took Kuat proper, and then focused on Corellia. Where the game continued to break.

I ended up going back to previous save til before I took Kuat to see if that was an issue, but it was earlier than I expected, I basically had to do a lot of fights over, the game progressed very differently, I lost a number of battles (and heros) I'd originally won and retained, and though I was bothered by the fact that Palps had decided to park himself on Kuat (which I was trying to isolate as a possible bug), I eventually killed Palps when he was part of an invasion force and the game proceeded into Era 4 without a hitch, though I was in far worse shape than I'd have been originally. EotH is seemingly invulnerable in era 4.

Another thing I want to try is to loading the original game, killing Palps on Corellia and then retreating (not waiting to win the planet) and see what happens.

Ok, nope. I tried it. Loaded original save, killed Palps on Corellia, retreated, game froze and then crashed.

Huh.  Weird.  I wonder if AI had taken the space over the other IR planets that you hadn't, and you simply weren't able to tell... *shrugs* Well, at least you were able to keep the game going in some way, even if your situation isn't as good.

Do you have the 2.15 patch (This does not come with just downloading the version off of ModDB regardless of how recent it is)
I also have a YouTube channel where I talk about mod development and gaming, do tutorials, and Let's Plays. If you like the content, consider supporting it on Patreon
