Alignment on the Offensive

I don't know if fan fictions are allowed on here, but I figured I do one since this is set during the mod's timeline and features several items from the game. Here is a little background: This fan fic takes place in 10 ABY, as a part of Operation Shadow Hand. Grand Moff Ardus Kaine of the Pentastar Alignment returns from the Deep Core to lead his forces against the New Republic. I would appreciate it if you commented on how you liked it, or if I need to work on something. Now, let us begin:

10 ABY, Space over Bastion, Onboard the SSD Reaper
Jang watched as the VT-49 Transport gracefully landed in the hangar bay. A sturdy looking ship, it was equipped with two laser cannons up front to protect against any attackers, and it appeared that a concussion missile launcher was also present beneath the ship. As the boarding ramp slid down, Jang watched as four Storm Commandos dropped out of the ship and positioned themselves at either side of the ramp. He straightened up into a crisp military salute as the next man came out of the transport, an elder man wearing the gray Imperial uniform with several rank bars adorning it. The man came up to Jang and nodded, saying "At ease" as he did so. He loosened up a bit, and then followed the man close behind. "Grand Moff Kaine, it's a pleasure to see you back here." As he was about to say something else, Kaine threw his hand up. "Save the pleasantries, we have more... pressing matters to attend to." With that, the Grand Moff entered through a door to his left, which led into a war room with a large holoprojector situated in the middle.

"We are at war, Admiral Karthokk." Kaine said, and followed suit by letting the silence hang in the air for a moment. Then, he continued. "We are now at war with the New Republic, Admiral." Jang stared at him for a moment, a thousand questions running through his head. "But why, might I ask, sir? Did they attack you during your travel to the Deep Core?" Kaine merely shook his head. "No. I, I... I can't explain it right now. You wouldn't believe me if I told you. But we are at war with the New Republic, and I need you to plan an offensive on one of their critical systems." He then reached over and activated the projector. "Anywhere in particular, sir?" Jang asked. The Grand Moff thought it over a moment, then spoke. "No, Admiral. You may choose where the assault will be, just have it underway within the week. That is all." Kaine followed by exiting the room, leaving Karthokk alone with the projector. Still curious about why the Alignment was now at war with the New Republic, Jang accessed the projector and pulled up a map of the galaxy, and began searching for a planet to attack.

Four days later, Edge of Mid Rim

Sitting on the bridge of the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Aggressor, Admiral Jang Karthokk looked out among the stars of the Mid Rim, dissecting the components of his task force. It was typical for a fleet in the Pentastar Alignment, with his force being made up of his flagship, a Venator-class Star Destroyer, 3 Munificent-class Star Frigates, 2 Enforcer-class Cruisers, and 5 Carrack-class Light Cruisers. With several other offensives coinciding with his in the Alignment, he was lucky he was able to pry these ships from the stretched fleet, and thankfully it was sufficient for his target. In an hour or two, his fleet would be assaulting the shipyards of Contruum, devastating the ability of the Republic to make enough warships to fill its needs.

If only I had the Reaper accompanying my forces, he thought, then I could give them a good scare while I was at it. He chuckled at the thought of bridge officers in the Republic ships shaking in their boots the second they saw the massive Super Star Destroyer lumbering out of hyperspace, gunning for them. He snapped back to reality when the Aggressor's captain spoke to him. "Admiral Kathokk, everyone in the fleet is accounted for, and they are ready to jump to hyperspace. Jang nodded toward him. "Very good, captain. On my mark, tell the fleet to jump to lightspeed." The captain responded in the affirmative, then made the other ships in his task force aware of the orders. The captain once more approached him and, as he was about to say something, Jang interrupted him. "Mark." The Admiral said. Realizing what his commander had just told him, he went about fulfilling that order, and watched as the stars outside the bridge stopped in time, and instantly transformed into the blue and white stream of hyperspace.

looks good however I belive it's not neccesary to say the kind of ship for example "Jang watched as the VT-49 Transport gracefully" I would delete the VT-49 I mean it shows that you know about SW ships but the truth is that it's not and importante detail the same goes with a tipical fleet of the PA give the name of some ships it's ok but the number are not important. It's intereseting

Contruum System, 10 ABY

Admiral Karthokk sat in the captain's chair on the bridge of the Aggressor, waiting impatiently for the coming battle to begin. He glanced at his watch while tapping his foot on the floor. Any minute now, he thought, we should be coming out of hyperspace. How long it had been since he last saw combat. He yearned to litter a planet's orbit with wreckage from the rebel ships. Soon, my fleet will be pounding the rebels to--"Admiral Karthokk, we'll be dropping out of hyperspace in ten seconds." A bridge officer reported to him, interrupting Jang's chain of thought. He nodded at the officer, confirming he recieved the update. A smile blossomed on his face, a cruel smile a combatant would give his soon-to-be-dead opponent.

Within seconds, Jang watched as the stream of hyperspace tranformed into white lines, and then revert back into the starry-filled void known as space. As the other ships in his fleet departed hyperspace, he looked onward, and saw the planet of Contruum in the distance, along with the numerous drydocks and shipyards orbiting her. The bridge officer spoke to him again. "Sir, sensors report that the shipyards are deploying starfighter and bombers, making a heading towards the fleet. Several capital-class Mon Cal warships defending Contruum are hanging back to defend the shipyards, and several smaller craft of Contruum-make are also heading our way. Also, the rest of the fleet reports in as awaiting orders." For a long moment, the Admiral just stared off at the enemy ships, analyzing their deployment. Afterwards, he grabbed his comlink and keyed for fleet-wide transmission.

He cleared his throat. "Task Force Aggressor, this is Admiral Karthokk. Subjagator, form up on the Aggressor's right flank. Domination, Carnage, form up on our left. Enforcer, Void Wanderer, stay in close behind and above us. Nest, don't get too far from the main line, but try to stay out of enemy turbolaser range. Carrack Cruisers, tuck in beneath us to operate as support. Move out." He watched the Star Frigates in his fleet position themselves on either side of the Aggressor, and tensed up as the Star Destroyer began moving forwards, towards the enemy shipyards.

In a matter of minutes, the starfighters first deployed by the enemy came in close enough that Jang could point out their make. "X-wings." He whispered, somewhat bitterly. An X-wing was the starfighter that blew up the First and, arguably, Second Death Star, and knowledge of those kills made sure that future pilots of those craft would be as so daring to try to take down a Star Destroyer by themselves. And sometimes, they succeeded in doing so.

He once more barked an order into his comlink. "Forward line, deploy TIE Fighters. Keep those snubfighters away from us." Giving him a safe feeling, TIE-series fighters began debarking from their ships and engaging the enemy fighters. Engaging in dogfights which, had they not been life-or-death, would have made for a great air show during a parade, the TIE pilots managed to widdle down to enemy X-wings, which eventually retreated back to the hangar bays they came from. Thankfully, the Aggressor made it close enough to the shipyards that their turbolasers could finally rain down fire upon
them.

Another cruel smile appeared on his face, as the shipyards began breaking into pieces, the under-construction ships docked in them floating off into space. That smile left him, again, as soon as he saw the bulbous warship moving in to engage his Star Destroyer. He didn't know for sure, but the thing looked like the new Mon Calamari Star Cruiser intelligence reports had told him about. He couldn't remember its name, but he did remember that they possessed enough firepower to go toe-to-toe with an Imperial Star Destroyer.

Never before had he faced a ship that potentially could take an ISD down, and as such he could feel a little bit of sweat trickle down his forehead. "Get our fighters up-front," he said to the bridge officer, "and form a screen in front of the Aggressor." After confirming the order, he suddenly began to feel antsy, he felt like he needed to be up and doing something, other than ordering people to do his bidding. Then, a thought came to his head.

"Actually, belay that order, Lieutenant." He stated, getting up and grabbing the young man's shoulder to get his attention. "Order our fighters to form a screen around their laser cannon batteries, hangar bays, and bridge." The bridge officer looked confused, and rightfully so, but went about implementing this new command. Sitting back down in the captain's chair, he leaned forward to get a better look at the battle in front of him. The Mon Cal Cruiser fired on the Aggressor, its turbolaser fire dissapating against her shields, and the Star Destroyer returned fire, with a similar result.

Then, he saw his plan come into action. TIE Fighters streaked past the Aggressor's bridge towards the enemy ship, and watched as they began swarming the turbolaser turrets, blazed past the cruiser's hangar and swinging back for another pass, and buzzed the bridge of the ship, occassionally putting a few shots in on it, which merely came into contact with the shields. He smiled as the turbolaser gunners accuracy lessened, a result of the TIEs constantly being put into their path, preventing them from getting reliable target locks. With the hangar too, what fighters were remaining in the cruiser couldn't deploy, or risk colliding with an oncoming snubfighter.

The bridge crew too was probably getting jumpy due to the TIE Fighters swinging by, which would cause the rest of the ships functions to be conducted with less efficiency. Time to finish that fish bowl off, he thought. He gazed over at the bridge officer who was delivering orders to another officer, but caught the Admiral's gaze and returned it with a salute. "Yes, sir?" He asked. "Lieutenant, order the turbolaser gunners to halt firing and wait for my order to fire simultaneously." Though he expected the man to look on with confusion again, this time he merely nodded his head and went about implementing the orders.

Once the Aggressor's tubrolasers no longer fired, he then issued the order into his comlink. "Mark." He said. With that, in one simultaneous burst, turbolaser blasts leaped out from the ISD, impacting the Mon Cal cruiser's shields which was engulfed in blue ripples as a result. He issued the order again. "Mark." With another burst, fire lanced out towards the enemy ship, this time the color in the ripples slightly transparent, as opposed to the solid color it was a second ago. He issued the order three times more, and with each shot, the shields grew weaker, as signified by how clear they were becoming. Finally, they gave way, and with the final burst, the shields dissappeated all together. Speaking into his comlink, he addressed the turbolaser gunners. "Tear that ship apart." He said, coldly. The burst fire then quit as the turbolasers began firing independent from each other. Within minutes, the Mon Cal Cruiser was no more, torn to pieces by his assault.

After about ten more minutes, the battlefield lay silent, with Admiral Karthokk's forces the clear victor. In the end, he had lost the Subjagator, the Enforcer, and two Carrack Cruisers, abismal losses. He addressed his bridge officer again. "Send a report to Bastion. Contruum has been captured, minimal losses sustained, awaiting new orders." With that said, he exited the bridge and headed to his personnel suite to rest.

Very good! although i believe you used the term abysmal in the wrong way :P (sorry for being a grammar nazi) (It would imply that the losses would have been devastating and irreparable rather than minimal losses as stated later.)

Thanks for clarifying, Wilhelm. For this next part, I figured I'd include an angle of the story from the opposite side, the New Republic.

NR Golan Defense Station, Kuat, 10 ABY

Brenn Tantor covered his mouth with his hand to yawn. He never much liked these briefings on galactic news.
However, this one was very important. "The newly-unified Imperial fleet has already launched attacks on Metellos
and Kaikelus, and are moving towards Coruscant, which is why we've moved military command here to Kuat until another
HQ is established." General Airen Cracken stated, the man officiating the briefing. From what Brenn understood, a big
part of the Imperial Fleet somehow had dissappeared into the Deep Core mysteriously, and have now shown up, fighting
side-by-side whereas years ago they would be gunning for each other, and are making big strides in their offensive
against the New Republic. Most in Intelligence had believed that some power-broker had managed to reunite the Imps,
like Grand Admiral Thrawn had done last year. Whatever the reason, they were no longer fighting each other and were
all gunning for the Republic.

Once the briefing was over, Brenn got up to leave, when he felt a hand on his shoulder. "General Tantor, a word with
you please." It was Cracken. As requested, Brenn stayed in the room until all the other Generals and Admirals left,
leaving him and Cracken alone. "Yes, General Cracken?" Brenn asked. "I'd like to ask something of you. New Republic
Intelligence reports that a fleet from the Pentastar Alignment has recently taken over my homeworld of Contruum, and
have done considerable damage to the shipyards. I'm authorizing you to take a force there and retake Contruum." Cracken's eyes trailed off, as if in deep thought. Brenn pondered the request for a moment. "Your request, is this merely an act of war, or is it something more?" Brenn asked. Cracken cracked a small smile. "I know the word you're looking for. Payback. Honestly, its a little bit of both. But, the Contruum Shipyards contribute a sizable part of the New Republic Fleet towards their production, and with this unified Imperial Fleet, we'll probably need all the cruisers we can get."

Brenn smirked, considering it. If the Intel reports were true that the leftovers of the Imperial Fleet had reunited, then
the Republic would definately need more warships. "You give me the resources, I'll do the dirty work." Cracken chuckled at
the remark. "Thank you." He nodded at Brenn, and left the briefing room. Brenn followed suit, and started towards the
hangar his shuttle was docked at.

One week later, Kashyyyk

On the bridge of the Renegade, General Brenn Tantor observed his strike force orbiting the forest world of Kashyyyk. Mon Cal cruisers, Corellian Corvettes, and all other kinds of cruisers from the various shipyards of the New Republic made up his fleet, while inside of these cruisers were his ground forces. Due to the chaos going on within the Deep Core and Outer Rim, he hadn't been able to get a hold of anything larger than the Renegade, an old Dauntless-class cruiser. He'd just have to be the better tactician for this battle. He turned toward his bridge officer, a Sullustian. "Everyone ready for departure?" Brenn asked. The Sullustian nodded, and spoke. "All ships accounted for, and are awaiting your order to move." Brenn walked over to the bridge exit, but spoke to the officer before leaving. "Let's get a move on, then." As he walked down the corridor, he could feel the ship rumble beneath his feet as they entered hyperspace.

Hm, perhaps I should put mine in here. I've a few good pages to contribute but I've run into a slight block...I can't think of a good enemy of the Alignment that they fought. There is so little material on the PA and Kaine it's sad.
