Ascendancy + heroes
« on: March 14, 2014, 02:15:08 PM »
I know that sins does not have any heroes in it and many mods have left them out, but surely you could just make them as normal units with bonuses you could make it so they are built in a specific building.

I am saying this because a lot of talk about sins is the fact that there is no heroes and that people really want them.

Quoting from Corey it Moddb to someone asking the same thing.
"There are ways to do it, however at this point we don't really think we like the gameplay patterns it would produce in this kind of game."
Essentially while possible it doesn't fit their current design plan.

However Star Wars: Interregnum is built off the E4X mod which has hero units.
I advise you to try out the E4X mod since it puts a lot of unique features that really, well for lack of a better term, "Enhance" the game.
If it weren't for the fact that it is just a enhancement to Vanilla, it probably top out as one of the most feature loaded mods in the community.

A thought... since capital ships level, you could make heroes take the place of capital ships.

The cruiser yard would produce ISD's and such.

Frigate yard would produce everything else.

Of course... maybe that might overload the frigate build interface.

It's not that we can't do it or don't know how it would be possible. We just don't want to add hero units. They don 't fit in with our vision of the mod.

Actually, I like the fact that there won't be heroes.  The scope of gameplay on this mod, with the fact that the team has said from the start they plan on having each faction have a unique tech tree, unlike base Sins, makes it so that IMO they're not really needed in it.

Yeah, there's a few ways we'd be able to do heroes, none of them especially difficult (although making them just replace capital ships would not work, then you'd just have several Thrawns running around), the problem is that I don't find them especially healthy for gameplay. I'm not saying it's something people don't want, because 90% of people would probably say they do if we asked, but once they were in it would turn into an EaW situation where the gameplay is so dependent on them that it's ultimately better not to do it. Unless someone can convince us otherwise, the only role for "heroes" will be as the flagships in the flagship Victory mode. Sometimes it seems as if people want heroes or put them in because "look it's another thing we've changed," which is far from what we're going for.
