I'd take Avengers or Iron Man over ESB.  None of the SW movies ever impressed me, to be honest.  They all had massive acting issues, plot holes out the wazoo, and were movies that I consider to be good enough to watch 1 time, but I will never watch any of them again as long as I live.

You are right star wars should only be watched once or twice.

It has been so long since I've watched any of the six movies I've forgotten large chunks of them.  I'm sure if I went back and looked at them with the same critical eye I give today's movies I'd see plenty of things wrong with them.  In this specific case Whedon was talking about the ending alone.  I agree with him.  The ending was a cliffhanger right after a huge reveal "I AM YOUR FATHER".  It could have been... better... but that's my only real complaint about ESB.  That particular movie was my favorite along with many others.

I can't judge.  I play almost every Star Wars game that comes out even though I don't watch the movies.
Did you see that?  Know what that cost?  $58,000.  I mean, what a waste.  It wasn't even funny.  That's $58,000 that could have gone to curing leukemia.  Or.  muscular dystrophy.  Or... what does Michael J. Fox have?  That.  Alright, let's watch some damn cartoons.

But what does he call his ending to Captain America? Is that not a cliffhanger ending with no real resolution? I think he is getting too big for his britches. He probably is just sore he didn't get the director part for SW VII and so he will just trash talk the movie. Avengers had no plot, it was just an excuse to watch a lot of boring, repetitive fight scenes. If that is what people think is hip these days, then the average human is in a very sorry state. ESB wasn't perfect, I will agree, but it was very character and story driven rather than action based. It also gave people a reason to go see RotJ (which in my opinion is much more Avengers like). Whereas after ANH people were not as tied to the characters.

Firefly/Serenity, Buffy, and Angel are quite frankly all way better than Star Wars in pretty much every way.

The thing with the ending to ESB is that ESB really doesn't and can't exist on its own. There's no real plot internal to it. It's fine for a movie to be part of a larger narrative but there still has to be a whole story contained in each part to some extent. You can watch Avengers or Captain America on their own and there's still something there, but what was the plot of ESB? There's a bunch of disconnected events and it only serves as a setup for RotJ. Anywho, as far as I know Captain America was primarily written by other people with Whedon only having done some script editing.

And Whedon has always been openly critical of anything he doesn't like, this isn't anything new. You should hear him talk about the original Buffy movie, he'll tear it to pieces.

I agree with Corey on this. I feel that for their time they were decent enough movies. Personally I think there was some fantastic acting(Though almost always it's on the part of the villains) but there was also bad as well. I think that some of the EU books had infinitely better writing and story then the movies ever did(The Thrawn trilogy for one)
But comparing a sequel and setup for a trilogy to what amounted to opening movies is foolish in it's own right. Also I felt Captain America was appalling compared to what it could have been, it was too rushed and the Avengers is more of a one watch for me. It was neat, good actors and decent plot but really not something I'd add to a dvd collection. That's just my opinion though.

*begin sarcasm* The Original Trilogy is the greatest series of all time with no issues what so ever. How dare you people question the genius of George Lucas. Who ever does not retract their heinous comments against Star Wars shall be murdered by a horde of Ewoks. *end sarcasm*

Yes, the guy who undid his heroine's big dramatic death in a pretty contrived and rushed way when the Fox execs started breathing down his neck, then ended Angel with a cut to black once the final battle began can really talk about 'closure'...

And no shit ESB had no closure, it wasn't meant to have any, it's called a cliffhanger ending. It was meant to lead straight into the next episode, otherwise you'd end with Vader and the Emperor dead and all of ROTJ is just Luke picking out new wallpaper for the Jedi Temple. Yeah its a bummer that it took 3 years until the story could end, but that's more to do with the production, and doesn't really affect the story itself.
