Well, I'm kind of a newcomer here, but first of all I'd like to thank the authors of TR. The amount of detail and changes is quite impressive and I like the mod a lot more than the original game where the Rebel Alliance just spammend 200 bombers at you and killed infinite numbers of star destroyers -,- .
Regard that, however I have a problem understanding the changes of the smaller IR frigates:

Carrack Class Cruiser, Strike Class Cruiser and Vindicator Frigates are pretty much the same ship with minor differences in cost/pop. In comparison the Carrack is inferior to both the Striker and the Vindicator and even taken the cost/pop in relation just ineffective. Same for the non-Katana Dreadnaught. In 1.3 the Carrack was useful due to its flexibiltiy - ion cannons and turbolasers against frigates, laser cannons vs fighters. Striker vs Vindicator is fine, its essentially fighters + firepower for the Striker vs durability on the Vindicator. The Dreadnaught does essentially the same as the Vindicator or the Striker, just without ion cannons, which seems pointless to me. I'd rather prefer it if the Dreadnaught would lose some turbolasers in exchange for laser cannons, because as it stands now, the IR has a distinctive lack of all purpose frigates and anti-starfighter ships. Defender and Preybirds are nice, but cannot compare to E-Wings or K-Wing Bombers.
In that regard, has something changed abot the Immobilizer? It is extremly expensive now, but still not even as durable as a nebulon b frigate and even though it has amazing anti-starfighter weaponry at least for me it never actually fires them.

I'd say it's the role they play. The strike cruiser is more capable of tackling as a group, whereas the Carrack should be used to destroy corvettes to prepare for the arrival of fighters.The carrack should be used as support, but strike cruisers can just batter down ships before a proper counterattack is made.  Carrack Cruisers should be used in systems that are not prone to attacks or as means of guarding land garrasions in space, along with lancers.

Vindicators should be used in galactic south border worlds( Never the north PA, west EoTH, east Main NR forces). They are good for defending your planets while your capital ships are preoccupied with something else.

All three are good matches with the victory star destroyer.

What you're missing here is that everything you're talking about is canon. The TR team, with great effort and skill, took a lot of time to rework all the weapons to fit the canon descriptions of each ship's armament. The IR's lack of all purpose frigates and anti-starfighter defenses is straight out of the GFFA, ever read the X-wing books? It's meant to highly the difference in military doctrine between the two sides. The IR prefers ship to ship combat, with overwhelming force whereas the NR relies on flexibility in its frigates and on starfighters. When playing as the IR, you need lancer frigates, lots of them (and they're cheap). The Scimitars, Preybirds, and TIE Defenders are great additions. With a bump in health and shields, the TIE Defender is now the BEST fighter/bomber in the game.

The Dreadnaught is an older ship, and has more armor/health than the strike cruiser, which is terribly flimsy. The Vindicator is meant to be a patrol ship for outer systems. Its pop (3) and cost really make it impractical except in places where you have only a light frigate shipyard and need more firepower than a carrack cruiser. The many ion cannos that carracks carry are also really useful. You should take into account the cost and pop each ship requires, that will help give you an idea of how each one fits.

The reason for the expensive interdictors is because they're meant to be more valuable units, which is also a bit of canon. Gravity well projectors are supposed to be incredibly expensive pieces of specialized equipment.

Also, might I recommend that comments like these would fit better under the "Questions/Comments about 2.0" thread?
