Viscount Counters (Split from 2.0 Wish List)

I was thinking: if you guys get the viscount running, the IR will have almost nothing to counter it with. Since it appears you are having trouble with a cloak, which would be a great way to give the IR a chance to recoup after being pounded by the viscount, why not give Pellaeon a regenerate shields ability?

Also, I was looking at the weapon compliment of the Executor and Viscount, and saw that each had a point defense system. Could they be given it in 2.0, or would that make them too OP?

Finally, I was thinking about bounty hunters. I was thinking that you could make them temporarily remove ahero from play, whereas actually defeating the hero could kill them. The only ones this wouldn't work for would be the IR leaders, since they must always be in play.

Actually according to The Essential guide to Warfare the IR still had two SSDs left(though of unspecified class) and we even see one of these later above Bastion during the Vong War(I doubt they built one in the few years between wars as they barely had the ability to build ISDs) so perhaps to counter the viscount Pellaeon could have a Praetor spawn in his era and perhaps an Executor, but not as his flagship.

The problems with cloaks is the exporter won't do it properly. Even when we just re-export FoC models they break, but yeah. Ever since we upgraded to 3ds Max 9. In any case, power to shields isn't a very Remant-y ability so we try to refrain from giving them it. The Viscount won't be in most GCs anyways, and in the ones where it is, the Remnant will certainly have the capacity to counter it. The Viscount will be the least of anyone's problems.

Also, I was looking at the weapon compliment of the Executor and Viscount, and saw that each had a point defense system. Could they be given it in 2.0, or would that make them too OP?
Most ships did, it's not something we ever include. I've never liked how FoC does it. We have other uses for that ability if we ever decide to do it

Finally, I was thinking about bounty hunters. I was thinking that you could make them temporarily remove ahero from play, whereas actually defeating the hero could kill them. The only ones this wouldn't work for would be the IR leaders, since they must always be in play.
Bounty Hunters always worked by killing the heroes, the respawn is independent of that. Same reason Han's smuggling ability doesn't exist properly anymore. Unless we did some story or LUA scripting (which I'm not even sure would work for this) then the only way to do it is the if killed, stay killed method which makes it completely unfair.

Or just give him the ability to build an even more limited quantity of them...  Having them spawn would give them an awful sudden boost of power that might not really be all that fair.  Going from almost nothing to a Praetor and an Executor off the bat?

Well seeing as how the NR will have the Lusankya, a massive superiority in numbers, planets, credits and the ability to build Viscounts to top it off, I'd say it's a fair balance.

On the subject of SSD's, I was thinking about the Hunt for Zsinj campaign. Zsinj never built any SSD's, so giving him that ability would make him a bit OP. However, he did try to steal one from Kuat, the Razor's Kiss. Therefore, maybe when you capture Kuat as Zsinj, you should be given an SSD as a capture bonus.

I actually like this idea, but if it was a capture bonus wouldn't it work for the NR and Teradoc factions as well?

In any event the Viscount would have less firepower than the Executor class since it was a full 2 kilometers shorter and was finished in peacetime and much fewer were constructed. They may not have been immensely effective in any regard as 2 of 3 built were destroyed in the Vong war(One destroyed in construction dock, another in an ambush on the way to defend Kuat) the Viscount herself saw little action save for the battle of Mon Calamari near war's end.

The firepower of the ship is not being decided here, the canonical armamement is basically the same as the Executor's (if not a little more powerful). They may have been developed in peacetime, but they were developed as a specific counter to the Executor. It's smaller because it's more compact, had better firing arcs, and had heavier armour than the Executor did.

The original ship in the class, the Viscount itself, was only about 3000 meters according to EGW, Vector Prime has it as much longer, and the stats we have are presumably for the 17,000 meter version, so that's what we're doing with.

As far as I'm aware, none of them were ever shown being destroyed. Bounty was the one still in drydock for most of the war, but even that it supposedly kept the Vong away from Mon Calamari, and it must have survived considering it was used in the subsequent wars. I can't find anything about the Krakana being destroyed, either.

Its in EGW:

Quote
Even incomplete, Bounty deterred the Yuuzhan Vong from attacking Mon Calamari until the desperate last stage of the war.  Krakana was ordered to Kuat in 27 ABY, where the Defense Force planned to use her as an orbital artillery battery, but the Vong destroyed her en route.
As for Viscount being only 3000m long, i'm inclined to assume that was a case of the New Republic bureaucracy performing a similar sleight of hand to what the Empire initially did with the Executor programme.

Even so, 33% of the class being destroyed isn't all that bad in the Vong War. IT certainly says nothing about how effective they were, even if Bounty or Viscount were also destroyed. They would have been prime targets for the Vong fleets in a battle.

I meant since they were basically kept away or out of the main lines of conflict that they were not effective to the overall war effort.(Lusankya did more than all of them combined just at Borleias alone)

I don't know, keeping the enemy away from one of your most valuable shipyards (Mon Calamari) seems like it might be quite beneficial to the war effort. :P

Maybe we shouldn't look to the idiots and fools of the wrecked New Republic for good military strategy...God NJO was awful, except for the stand at Borleias. Allston's only books in that series stand apart.
"That's not what the Empire would have done, Commander. What the Empire would have done was build a super-colossal Yuuzhan Vong-killing battle machine. They would have called it the Nova Colossus or the Galaxy Destructor or the Nostril of Palpatine or something equally grandiose. They would have spent billions of credits, employed thousands of contractors and subcontractors, and equipped it with the latest in death-dealing technology. And you know what would have happened? It wouldn't have worked. They'd forget to bolt down a metal plate over an access hatch leading to the main reactors, or some other mistake, and a hotshot enemy pilot would drop a bomb down there and blow the whole thing up. Now that's what the Empire would have done."

True, though I did like when Pellaeon got into the fight with the Jedi to boot! Chased those Vong right out of the Remnant and ended up in the core, the tide swung thanks to the Remnant!(And maybe Zonoma, the Jedi and Shimra's madness a little)
