Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Re: Criminal Factions
« on: March 24, 2018, 09:27:53 AM »
The Hapes Consortium wasnt considered a criminal faction, was it? I did not think that they were.
The Hapes Consortium was founded millennia ago by pirates and the women they abducted, so technically there's criminal connections but that's all long in the past now.

What's wrong with space whales? They had them in Star Trek too, and it's not like Legends didn't have it's own share of similar species as well!  Oswaft

Star Wars Discussion / Re: Rebels ending and the future(spoilers)

Thrawn, Ezra, and Peallon have a role to play(the are most likely going to fight the FO if not then i do not know what.) in the future.
I don't exactly see how Ezra and Thrawn can have a role against the First Order in any sense.  You're essentially saying that after managing to survive a hyperspace jump of unknown duration to unknown location while fighting on a depressurised bridge, both of them then manage another 40 years without killing each other before returning the galaxy at large to save the day together?

Ezra, Thrawn, Peallon, and the seventh fleet are gone, but not dead
I don't think Pellaeon is gone.  In what I've read of Filoni's interview comments he name-dropped Pellaeon to restore the character to canon and leave him open for other authors to pick up, which would be hard to do if he's stuck in the same place as Thrawn/Ezra!

Saying its a happliy ever after is not really fair since their are still characters that dont have "Happy Endings."
Sure, there are variable outcomes but generally it is quite happy.
- Lothal remained free from Imperial rule or retaliation and recovered.
- Hera survived the rest of the Rebellion and brought up Kanan's child.
- Zeb returned to his people and took Kallus with him, relieving Kallus' guilt about his part in the Lasat genocide.
- Ahsoka is undead (but in an unknown location for an unknown period of time).
- Ezra and Thrawn are undead (but in an unknown location for an unknown period of time).

Aside from "where the hell are people?" I think Sabine's outcome is the most unclear.  First her relationship with Ezra seems more brother/sister than anything else to me, and she was actually quite accepting of his decision to finish the mission and save Lothal.  More generally however we've no idea what happened with her family back on Mandalore while she stayed on Lothal keeping her promise to Ezra (or how she understood it, anyway), which seems a big omission considering how important Mandalore has been over the last few series.

Honestly, I thought that montage sequence narrated by Sabine was a bit of a cheat.  It seemed almost like an "and they all lived happily ever after" and feels like it cuts off a lot of potential for the characters in future.  Zeb and Kallus hived off to the new Lasat homeworld, Sabine in a holding pattern on Lothal for years, and most particularly removing Thrawn from the picture for an indeterminate time which removes any opportunity to pit him against the more familiar OT characters.

I also thought it was too convenient that the montage had Ahsoka with Sabine rather than leaving her in an unknown time and place to be discovered through a future medium.  More favouritism by Filoni for his pet creations?

Discussion, Suggestions and Feedback / Re: Corporations.

Do the AI take advantage of (or even build) Corporations?
Bob is currently working on getting the AI to do just that, amongst other AI amendments.

That seems to have been a very recent edit (February 2018) where someone has conflated Super-class Star Destroyer (as described in Legacy of the Force) with the Executor-class, yet again.  EDIT: I've edited the page back to the less categorical description because that edit seems suspect.

When building ships in survival mode, the ai says "upgrade complete" but no ship spawns.  Is this a known bug, and if so, whats the fix?
Ships you purchase in Survival will go into the reinforcements pool, but you can only bring them into battle between attack waves.

The mod is several times the size of the base game due to all the extra content we've squeezed in.  Start-up has correspondingly longer loading times.  Try giving it a few more minutes on the load screen.  If it isn't properly crashing on you that probably just means it's still collating files.

The Lounge / Re: A idea involing the Admiral's Lounge
« on: February 18, 2018, 04:51:56 AM »
So recently i thought about the Admiral's Lounge. Its nice how it works and all. I like that the more dedicated fans get access to behind the scenes stuff.
But i have notice some problems with it:
1. People have been exploting the Lounge for the soul reason of getting access to stuff like the Beta tests. This somewhat bothers me.
2. All it serves as is a access pass to stuff behind the scenes.
People always try to cheat past controls like post-gates, and honestly this week hasn't even been that bad.  And on such a small and generally quiet forum (there's normally never more than a handful of discussions going on at a time) it can be hard to genuinely build up a high post count.  That's partly why the AL has such a low barrier of entry anyway (originally Admiral rank required 125 posts).  We also don't want to overly punish those infrequent posters who are equally invested in the mod (particularly now there are such diverse ways to engage, e.g. ModDB, Discord, Corey's Youtube channel).

When I joined (in the mists of time now) it took me a month to reach the current threshold for the Admiral's Lounge, and three months to reach the actual threshold.  And looking at the forum stats the forum was almost twice as busy that year as it has been in any year since (including last year and so far this).  EDIT: Even after 11+ years of the forum there are only about 60 people who would have access to the original post-rank required for the AL, let alone going higher.

Quote
I personally think it should be expanded so we can have a personnel chat for the Admirals and beyond to discuss stuff in a more hardcore fasion. For Example in this chat people like Lord Xizer, Dave, Mr.Puerto, and me who are hardcore fans can discuss things in a more hardcore manor
I don't think the post-gated MO and AL subforums are the place for this.  Just because someone hasn't posted much doesn't mean they aren't a "hardcore" fan or would be interested in reading, or contributing to, lore discussions.

and maybe we could make it where the admirals can have a version of the chat box that only they can access.
No can do.  Pretty sure the plugin only supports one global chatbox on the forum.

We had it in once, a long time ago, but it got cut because it is pretty much identical to the Nebula in stats and timeline, and none of our artists have ever managed to make a model/texture we're happy putting in the mod alongside the rest of our content.

Star Wars Discussion / Re: Character Study Garm Bel Iblis

TL;DR but you missed the most important part: how he stole Gargantuan from that Imperial test site!

There's actually quite a few canon units and designs for Vong ships, far more than for the Chiss or Empire of the Hand.  As for Dovin Basals Corey and Code figured out years ago how they'd like to handle those in EAW (assuming the game would behave itself).

55
Space-only GCs would essentially mean we require two full sets of planets, and two full sets of GCs.
And a whole lot more unit-locking to prevent the AI free-spawning ground units it can't use.

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Re: Balmorra's Ground Map?
« on: February 11, 2018, 11:07:33 AM »
Most of the maps in the mod have been moved around for 2.2 and we're also making more use of vanilla maps.  We also have a new mapper who has been working on improving existing maps alongside creating brand new ones.  Specifically in answer to your question though: yes Balmorra is using a different map now, although the one it had in 2.1 (actually made for Commenor) has always been one of my favourites!

News & Updates / Re: [ICW 2.2] Era Progression Overhaul
« on: February 10, 2018, 04:56:04 PM »
Now we have "7" eras. Is it theoretically possible add more eras in furure or there is any limit for numbers of eras?
The limit is still five proper eras because that's dependent on the tech level mechanic in the core game, the rest we're fudging via story events (hence it being era 1 part 1/2 and era 3 part 1/2).

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Re: Proposing ideas for Zero Command
« on: February 10, 2018, 06:44:32 AM »
4. Ilthmar's Fist?: What a strange occurrence, I would've let this taken the third slot in Arrowhead Command had I not learned that it was not an ISD, but actually an unclassified battlecruiser that Harrsk took to Kalist. Three ships in the Empire had the legitimate classification of "Battlecruiser," these were the Praetor MK II, the Allegiance class, and the Tagge. So this thing was one of two Battlecruisers that took a part in the Battle of Endor, the other was the Pride of Tarlandia, a communications ship, and second in common of Death Squadron, next to the Executor. Funnily enough, POT has no official class name either, other than "Communications ship." I guess this means that Ilthmar's Fist could literally be any one of the previous three classes, or even a completely unique ship. So, what does everyone else think?
Because of its role as a command and communication ship I would put Pride of Tarlandia down as an Allegiance-class because the Allegiance (presumably class lead) also served in that role during the 10 ABY Battle of Calamari.  Ilthmar's Fist I would personally make a Tagge (or in mod terms, a Sorannan-class) mainly just for variety.

Star Wars Discussion / Re: Solo Teaser

Breaking News: Han Solo movie actually exists!

Seriously though, that trailer looked pretty good and I am looking forward to seeing Solo on release. :)

I still have a soft spot for A.C. Crispin's Legends trilogy though!

Nothing stays in print forever.  However I agree it is slightly surprising that Lucasfilm/Disney are saying no to a third party who wants to essentially continue giving them free money, although it could just be another publisher has already signed a new contract for Legends material.
