Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Limitations of the engine
« on: October 20, 2018, 05:11:19 PM »
I was wondering if it is impossible to change the minimap control scheme bar thing (where most of the buttons, unit selection are) and the ability to zoom out of the map more while still having those controls.

Are map sizes also a limitation?

Is having ships literally screen other ships also a limitation?

Imperial Civil War Tech Support / Interesting freeze ups.
« on: May 19, 2018, 07:01:00 PM »
Ah good to be back, nobody remembers me that's okay.

Been a couple of years since I played last and glad to see the newest updates for Ascendancy and ICW. Naturally I installed everything back on

Love the balancing and the new HUD And UI things but I am running into a problem that seem random to me. I have tried playing the smallest GC and the larger ones, two things happen.

When I stack up a unit, sometimes it's a huge stack, sometimes it is three ships that start on the same planet (So sometimes 30 minutes into the game or 3 minutes) or even move a stack the game will freeze and become unresponsive, requiring me to restart my PC to get it off the screen.

Something I also noticed in the longer games it lets me play is when I save (I made the autosave file read only) it will freeze as well, though I read in the forums about that being a known issue that the developer is looking into.

So that's what I am lookin at, I have not yet played Skirmish matches but that is next on my list. I should not have been lazy and tried it before posting here but oh well I guess.

Anyways, hope nobody else is experiencing this. Hope there's something I can do. Great game.

Why not try my hand out on this as well? Again, I have additional time to give to it that I didn't have last time Corey. That life :\

Star Wars Discussion / Re: Spark of the Rebellion Opinions?
« on: October 10, 2014, 02:15:08 AM »
So the bad guys are really portrayed as Nazi's. The storm troopers are trigger happy soldiers happy to glass civilians. The officers are pretty horrible people, and while yeah in the Star Wars universe you do get the freaks who enjoy killing species, not everybody is like them.

There is killing so that's something I didn't really expect. Though the killing really turns into the "You don't care" because no soldier has a face, personality, they are pretty much dummies getting shot. I really think the show needs to go into more of a grey, like a bell curve. Yeah they will encounter really bad people for the empire, but like more moderate. Less Nazi types.

You see the "Join the Imperial navy" painting up on one of the scenes. People that join volunteer, are they really going to go shoot up a bunch of houses just cause? Oh shoot that little kid! OK! Let's do it! The main characters have a lot of personality but really the story is too black and white.

They keep falling into the trap tons of movies and shows make to advance plots. The bad guys are idiots. The plot relies on the bad guys being idiots. Yeah... no.

Somebody has already said the ISD no tractor beam, the ship docking on the ISD without it's knowledge.

I would like to see more of a professional military the imperials having. I read a rationalizing from somebody that did the films for the lack of storm trooper accuracy, saying they were taken by surprise and that is why they did not really perform all that well. Then also the Emperor did not really want them to kill Luke. Bring a little professionalism because you get 3 people going up against a squad of storm troopers and there is no danger. The jedi guy stood up and walked forward and nothing happened to him. I hope they bring a little more believability to it, a more believable story is always better.

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Re: GC strategy tips for share
« on: October 10, 2014, 02:06:33 AM »
This is for admiral difficulty. So pretty much two planets are my ground spam one unit (Heaviest unit you can build). My ship building planets have planetary guns on it with turbos on land, I keep a respectable force on each. The rest of my planets have money making buildings on them. The rest of my ships flood to the choke points and after I start getting tons of capital ships I rapidly expand to other check points, after destroying each fleet I will leave a frigate so they can no longer build ships in space.

Is there really any other way to do it more efficiently?

They have changed the look of a few ships, making them different than what they have in the EaW mod... So yeah, if you were referring to the one I think you are, they have created a new model/thing.

Ascendancy Discussion / ship balling
« on: September 01, 2014, 04:39:25 PM »
Corey, in your reply a few months ago you said you + team was trying to make ship balling a less used tactic. I know you have the jump anywhere feature for all factions, can I know what else? Is it a surprise? Is it a future update? What can you tell me?

Is it possible for capital ship worlds to produce the capital ships and only those? or will it be like base if you have the slots you can build whatever? I am pretty sure you can't make a building only build able on certain planets, could capital ship planets have some sort of buff to make a certain type of ship build faster? Is that possible?

 How's life?

Something with the EaW when I am playing against other people sometimes I can dominate certain areas with my fleet, but my human player can often stall me on the planets by just being better at ground than I am. There was certain things to do against humans that could hurt financially a lot or really just expend my military force or even hold it in place. It seems like SoasE has just a straight forward, find your enemy, kill your enemy. Generally what I have found is when combat ensues on the first contact planet everybody rushes there. Sometimes you can get around the back but pretty rarely.

Which brings it to being just a slug out. Which I know you guys have already addressed. Is there any plans to have a more fluid(meaning doing stuff) gameplay? Like it seems pretty lifeless out there just a bunch of military ships shooting each other. It's fairly difficult to raid numerous planets as a large force is always nearby to squash it. Something I found playing against others with ICW if I expanded quickly and did not have the sufficient fleet to police each planet during it's early stages, I usually lost those planets or it took quite some time to get it under control. I also was forced to send reinforcements to lone side of the map while being careful to defend the other.

 Do I make sense?

 Is it stupid?

I have been doing some research and haven't found out if you can even start out with multiple planets on sins.

 Is this possible?

If so is this how it will play out?

Wow I didn't realize my number 3 didn't make any sense until I Just read it again.

I was meaning to say some techs should be universal for all the factions, like common scientific breakthroughs. The second part was saying aside from the techs that would seem a common achievement, it is too similar in vanilla. While there are probably some techs that everybody is going to have, there isn't enough difference in most of the other categories.

I was not thinking of the capital shipyard but like the titan shipyard (Which I believe is like locked to 1 "titan" for this mod?) , or what Corey said.

1. Which aspects do you most like about the game?
2. Which aspects do you dislike?
3. How do you feel about the tech trees?
4. Are there any aspects of the game that you feel are underdeveloped?
5. Are there any features that the game feels like it should have, but that it lacks?

1. Bringing in reinforcements into a battle is great.
2. Ship tactics are pretty much non existent, whoever has more DPS is going to win. It seems like all the strategy is trying to amass a larger fleet(therefore larger economy) Than the other player. There is no turn around unless it is in the guise of 20 additional capital ships to the rescue.
3. Some techs seem should be universal, otherwise it's pretty much the same will little to distinguish the factions.
5. Navy tactics. I want to win a battle because I outsmarted the other person, not because my navy is bigger than your navy.

Empire of the hand
special shipyard can build Thrawn (normal star destroyer) Parck (Normal star destroyer) and then those other chiss people.

Remnant Palleon, and whoever else has a notable star destroyer.

Put in like the super star destroyers so you can only build one of each (so the empire of the hand doesn't have all Star Destroyers for example)

Ascendancy Discussion / Heroes
« on: May 27, 2014, 07:02:13 PM »
I believe I have read where heroes will not be implemented? I was wondering if something else could be considered?

Allow the hero ship to be built at some construction yard, Simply as strong as it's usual constructed counterpart. Though each faction would have different heroes obviously. Such as Thrawn and Parck star destroyers for the empire of the hand, Chimaera and w/e else I think I am clear with the suggestion...

As the hero abilities don't really make sense in Sins (I could be wrong in my way of thinking how they go) is this an interesting idea? It would add like 2 non faction ships with my knowledge of hero ships...

I believe there is a way to limit what type of ship is available such as the super ships?

 Thoughts? Attacks?

I am 90% sure I am going to get the timeline incorrect.

As the empire of the Hand is a shadow empire of the actual empire, wouldn't they also have access to Star Destroyers? Say the republic has the core worlds and mid rim, they would have access to Star Destroyer facilities such as on Kuat. Are the SDs becoming outdated in this timeline or are they still at their prime?

In  my opinion, if it can't be changed to fit star wars better then it should be disabled if possible. It slows game play and hurts players that are behind, do well and you are rewarded, do not so well and you get 50 pirate ships attacking you.
