Now that I played some GC I'd also like to add some thoughts :)

I played the game when it came out since I was a huge SW fan but the game really didn't attract me too long and I almost forgot it. A few weeks ago I came across it again and looked for some Mods. SInce the game is kinda old it was hard to fin anything after 2007ish. Then I checked youtube, found some videos with this mod and was like 'WTF IS THIS THE SAME GAME'?

This Mod made me pay 20 bucks for a steamversion of EaW since I had language problems between EaW and FoC and so far I didn't regrett it.

The special effects are awesome and I can hardly believe what you did with the game. I have some issues with the audio though since sometimes when I click on a ship I get a respons with the wrong shiptype (I'll write it down the next time it happens to see what shiptype it is).

The gameplay on the other hand is kinda odd. I find Spacebattles extremly easy. I barely lose ships and the 'AI' doesn't the deserve the 'I'. Very often he attacks me with several small fleets within minutes instead of massing them. I also have the feeling he isn't very good at building and composing a fleet. The AI behavior is very predictable but I enjoy every single battle due to the amazing graphics and the whole atmosphere.

On land battles I have a hard time when they attack me really clevery with a well balance army and from several sides. In the later games I can't invade any planets since the AI spams the planets with factories and units.

Now I have some questions:
- can you limit the amount of free units you get per factory?
- is it possible that ships stay damaged after a battle and either need time (and a SY) or money to repair? I think I saw once a hero's ship (Lusankya??) which was still damaged from an earlier battle
- is it possible to start with less units? I feel like the IR is really powerfull in every GC so maybe it's psosible that playing on 'hard' not only makes the enemy tougher but also gives you less ships
- is it possible to get a GC where you controll just one or 2 planets from start? It'd be nice to build your own Empire from scratch :)

In short: the Mod is awesome and I can't wait for 2.0 (or 1.4?)

Is there some sort of  wiki or manual for this mod? Every day I play I realize I know less and less :D

I play mainly with the Empire and just saw a bunch of fighters in the list and didn't know there are so many distinctions like Interceptor, Starfighter etc. I also have to admitt that I never build fighters since I always have enough of them on board of my Ships :D

I disagree that interdictors limit strategy, the basic law of Strategy is to dictate what the enemy does(I.e. make him dance to your tune) the interdictors achieve this by either trapping an enemy or becoming the primary targets of focus allowing other units to respond accordingly. Give me an interdictor, a modular sensor ship and a modest fleet and I can annihilate just about any enemy fleet, because I know how to use those tools to achieve victory. It's all about knowing the best uses for the units.

You do realize that you contradicted yourself? With Interdictor and Modular Taskforce Cruiser every battle is the same.

For 2.0 I'd like to see both the Interdictor and the Modular Taskforce Cruiser with a way lower range of their abilities. An Interdictor should not be able to block a whole System so you are forced to to keep it closer to the enemy where it also is more at risk. Same with the Modular Taskforce Cruiser as it's a real overkill to see the whole map with this unit.

I too like units to be as canonical as possible. But in the game we have to think about both the balance as well as the abilities of the KI. Imho the KI is really bad with the Interdictor (both defending and attacking it) so the player gets a real advantage here.

Would it be possible in 2.0 that single ships can retreat? Or is it hardcoded that only the whole fleet can flee?

Also is it possible to get rid of obsolete ships in the build list? I mean there is hardly any reason to build inferior fighters and I also almost never build an Aclamator in the later eras.

Thx for the answers. And don't get me wrong: this Mod is awesome and brings them game to a whole new level. I can't wait to see what you did with 2.0  :D

Yesterday I also played the scenario with the Lusankya (Palpatine as Leader and I was the Empire) and first I thought this is gonna be a tough one. But the NR never ever moved that ship even though there were 3 planets within reach with way weaker fleets.

On the other hand when I was in the Orbit of an enemy planet they would send fleet after fleet I could kill without a single loss.

In that game I also noticed a few things:

- auto resolve sux! I had a battle where I had 2 ISD, 2 Dreadnoughts plus several screens and the enem had 1 correllian corvette. With auto I won but lost one Dreadnought???

- The Fleet KI isn't the smartest. I attacked the Coruscant with a Souvereign and 3 ISDs. I jumped in with a MTC and let the Lusankya come closer. Then I jumped a Sovereign in front of it and the ISD in it's back. I could kick the sh*t out of the Lusankya while the rest of the fleet (several Capitals, Heavy Dreads etc) stayed back with the Golans even though they outnumbered me badly.

- The KI builds insane amounts of factories and barracks. In the later game it was virtually impossible for me to conquer any planets since the KI could throw wave after wave of free artillery, tanks and soldiers against me (the meanest planet was Bothawui which reppelled like 5 invasions without losing a single building)

So I can win fleet battles without a problem (not only numberwise but also tactically) but on the planets it's pure stalemate. Is that wanted?

Edit: just had a landbattle and the KI attacked my Planet with Luke Skywalker, Mara Jade, Lando Calrissian, Corran Horn, 1 Jedi and several infanterie. Needess to say all were killed.

Well I play 1.3 and only the early eras. Is there a way to get a hand on 2.0 allready?

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Empire = the strongest faction?
« on: April 30, 2012, 09:19:25 AM »
I played several hours of conquest and  i really prefer the Empire over all other factions (way cooler units  ;)). But I noticed that even at 'hard' the KI was no challenge and I really only lose battles when I use less units than I should. On the other hand the KI almost never attacks me even if they have way superior numbers (eg I sit with a decent fleet next to Mon Calamari and even though they have twice the ships they would not attack me for several days now). Also with a SSD you really need no other ships to win any battle  ;D

So is the Empire really the (by far) strongest faction? Which difficulty should I use? And which scenario do you guys prefer and is really challenging?

Heya

I am new to the game and have only played a few hours of Conquest. But I noticed that the planet's do not show any Boni you get when you conquer them. Is that a bug or wanted?
